It's not the physical beating that I enjoyed (Im not really into fighting that much), but finally Kassian taking the bait and losing control after being toyed with all game. Let's face it, Tkachuk played it perfectly all game, but you knew there would be consequences.
Drama and hate is what makes sports interesting and entertaining. I hope they keep it up (including Rasmus inserting himself into it). The last thing I want to see is the NHL punishing everyone and we go back to soulless games and cliche interviews.

His post game comments probably don’t help him out. The fact that the exact same thing happened a few years ago also doesn’t help him out.
“I’ve done it before, I did it tonight, and I’ll do it again”.
That’s the sort of cycle the NHL will try to break. Hence the hearing

I dont think anyone is upset if kassian facewashes tkachuk or throws a punch. I mean I'd still call the guy a knuckledragger but that to me is normal boiling over and part of the game. He gets a minor or two and game rolls on.
Freaking out completely and attacking a guy from behind like that has never been ok in the nhl, or really anywhere in the world.
You can have the passion and make the game interesting without risking injury to this extent.
Nhl wants to be compelling to more than just half cut mma bros from the burbs.

Hope he doesn’t get too many games - last night was one of the most entertaining games all year thanks to Kassian’s little outburst. Hockey needs more of this type of thing, drama like this is what makes sports fun to watch.

To be honest, I have no problem with Caveman throwing a few punches but he definitely overdid it and took it to a dangerous level. He also loses control and has that psychotic switch that doesn't turn back off.
I think he'll get a stern taking to, maybe a small fine or 1 game max.
Guys like this really don't need to be in the league anymore.

The only major sport where this type of crap is even remotely tolerated. I don’t understand why the NHL continues to allow these maniacs to do this by issuing only minor suspensions and fines.
That type of behaviour should be a permanent ban. But it won’t be, because of the soft precedent the NHL has given itself.
They will never correct it.

He should have been escorted off the ice in handcuffs.

Repeat offender jumps All-Star from behind...
Could be some games. It was interesting to see the Oilers lineup when he was out last night. Many are calling him out for his 13 goals comment....but the sad part is that he is the best they have...

Always hear talk of "hockey plays", aggressive hits and what not, what Kassian did was predatory in nature and after the play had ended. Sure he wanted a fight, but he also wanted to hurt Matthew for getting the best of him. Even if he lost his cool in the moment thats one thing, the media comments are another story.
I have no idea he did not receive a match penalty for intent to injure. If Lucic got 2 games for a unsuspecting punch...would not be surprised in the least if he got 5 games

Give him 4 games. He'd miss the next game against the Flames but they play again a couple days after. That would be Neanderthal Man's first game back. Perfect.

|
Well said and exactly where I am at.
Did he go a bit too far at the end? Sure. Which is why he has a hearing that will likely end up with him getting to watch the Oilers next game from above, but beyond that it was great to see the passion and hatred permeate the game. Hockey has lost so much of that in the last 20 years.
Seriously, the games and stuff that used to happen between these two clubs 30-35 years ago would have some of you changing the channel in its violence. It was as entertaining as anything I| have ever watched at times though.
I'm glad it got dialed back a bit as things became dangerous a few times, but the absolute hatred between the clubs dissipated at the same time. Tkachuk did his job and Kassian did his.
Cannot wait til the back to back at months end.

Kassian is beneath Lucic. Rinaldo should fight him.

I was at the game and that’s how I saw it.
But I think that the refs believe that it takes two to fight, hence the double minor.
He didn’t get the instigator since there technically wasn’t a fight.
I would have given him a match penalty for intent to injure.
When players retaliate for clean hit, it tells me they can dish it out but not take it.

Lifetime Suspension

Didn’t like the HNIC panels excusing of it, and glad to see the league is going to look at it.
Question, is this hearing the one where he has an option of an in person, and how long a suspension can they give if they don’t give that option?
|
Honestly, #### the HNIC panel.
Hopefully it is made clear from this ruling to everybody over there that wailing on a guy from behind who hasn't dropped his gloves is not acceptable.

If Lucic gets 2 for a single punch...
If that was Rinaldo snapping on McDavid there would be calls to kick him out of the league, what's different with our all star and a guy with a history?
The first take down and maybe a couple punches, fine, part of the heat of the moment. But two pull downs and 10 punches? After the ref told him to stop probably at punch 4? If Tkachuk got hurt on any of those throws down to the ice from behind, it would enter another level.
And his ##### comment to reporters, and that he would do it the exact same the next time, just can't be said in this day and age in public, and also goes to show that a full 90 mins later he's amped up, so no remorse.

Lifetime Suspension

^^I enjoyed the whole sequence of events and particularly the fact that the Flames scored on the powerplay. That being said, based on Lucic’s 2 games this should get at least 5 games without pay.
