One of my favorite films of all time is Big Trouble and love They Live. I really do like Carpenter's style. I wouldn't immediately sleep on Craven though. Other than the two movies suggested above : the Serpent and the Rainbow is excellent and he had a big impact in terms of general influence, blending the realistic and the fantastical.

Nightcrawler was like a better version of Joker before Joker. Jake Gyllenhal is top notch creepy. You put some makeup and a purple suit on that guy and he’s joker for sure. I’m convinced Joaquin Phoenix watched that movie for inspiration.

The podcast Blank Check recently covered his entire filmography. Really great and funny movie podcast.
My favourite quote of his, when asked about his thoughts on the possibility of Robert Rodriguez remaking Escape From New York as well as the recent Halloween movies.
"I love it, if they are going to pay me money. If they pay me, it’s wonderful. If they don’t pay me, I don’t care. I think it’s unfair if they don’t pay me. I think everyone should pay me. Why not? I’m an old guy now and I need money. Send me money."

One of the little known things about Carpenter is how massively influential he was to post punk synth bands like human league and Joy Division, his simple synth beats were huge in the UK

Watched Pig with Nicholas Cage. Spent the entire film waiting for the moment Nic would wash his damn face. Was hilarious seeing days pass by in the film with the same smear of goop on his face as he went from place to place. When he finally gave it a bit of a splash, I cheered out loud.
Not what I was expecting at all. Not sure why it seems to have such a cult following. Decent film but strange.

Carpenter is the man and I love most of his movies, (In the Mouth of Madness hasn't been mentioned yet but I think it's brilliant) but I also really love Craven and his work. NOES and Freddy is the most iconic 80s horror movie and New Nightmare was way ahead of its time. Plus he did 4 Scream movies (1,2,4 all good), People Under the Stairs, Last House on the Left, Hills have Eyes and even his last film Red Eye is really good. I think since his passing he's kinda been a little forgotten.
We watched Escape from Pretoria on Netflix and thought it was excellent. A true story about a very unorthodox prison break of political prisoners during apartheid in South Africa. Daniel Radcliffe stars. Give it a watch!

Last Night in Soho was a great ride from start to finish. Loved the storyline, even though I saw the ending coming a mile away. Still, excellent film. The musical score really lifts it to new heights. Can't wait to get that soundtrack.

The Power of the Dog on Netflix was pretty good. Some great performances from the main cast all around and breathtaking landscape cinematography. Never really knew which direction it was going to head in... though I don't think the ending was as ambiguous as it tries to play off.
Yeah, great cast and really beautifully shot. I had a similar reaction, definitely didn't know which direction it would take, although I thought that in retrospect it was a really well set-up conclusion.
But couldn't shake the fact that the landscape was clearly Rohan and not Montana.
