Nice write-up as always Bingo. I actually think the goal differential stat is pretty useful over an 82 game season to correlate with how good team really is. Yes Flames improved considerably over a 4 game stretch, but a couple of those games were really pretty good.

We may be saying sort of the same thing.

The Flames were better than -22, it was obvious. But they're not as good as +14 in the last four games.

The move to -8 is getting closer to how they've played.

You know what, until I just read his name in the Game Takes I totally forgot Brandon Davidson was in last night

That is a really good thing

yet even that +14 includes a very random late ENG against...feels like we have been on the wrong side of those this year, and team is getting close to break even ? as you say where they should

interesting too that the first line was quiet on the scoresheet yet paced the 'fancy stats' that fits with the eye test that they were generating- and a good sign of sorts that even if the bottom end dries up , there could be something coming up top

Agreed. But also these 4 games were very important. Had they lost all 4 they’d be out of it pretty much and deserving of whatever minus differential they were at. This bursting of the dam is hopefully a turning of the corner here.

Davidson has been just fine IMO. No drama.

in 2015-16 Brandon Davidson was 53" CF and +7 logging 19 minutes a night on a team with a -42 goal differential. The Chicago Blackhawks were looking to add him to solidify a run at repeating as champs but Edmonton didn't bite.

He got injured the next year (Matthew Tkachuk's so called slewfoot) and it was rocky since then.

I firmly believe he's a legitimate NHL defenseman. Maybe those 2016 stats imply he's a bonafide top 4 guy when maybe he's not that, but he can do everything you would ask of a Dman. Can hit the net, break the cycle, make a clean first pass.

I just don't get why we're playing him on the right.

I just think they want the more experienced guys + Andersson on the top 4 which leaves no RHD for the bottom pairing unless it's Yelesin (and they aren't playing Davidson and Yelesin, or at least haven't yet). So Kulington gets LHD and Davidson is stuck with the right side (which he plays in Stockton because they have zero RHD other than Yelesin).
