Finally watched Parabellum. It was fine and all, but it felt kind of like an episode of a TV show.

We both really enjoyed it. I thought it was way better than I had anticipated.
It was nice to see Chinese representation and central plotlines in a mainstream movie.
The story was pretty standard and typical. Visuals were gorgeous, and quite a sight to see in theatres. Lots of great laughs, and my son laughed a lot throughout.

"Rocketman" was... weird. Something about it reminded me of the TV show "Cop Rock", when people would burst into song at any moment. I thought it would be more "Bohemian Rhapsody", and less "Mamma Mia!"
"Yesterday" was alright, but I didn't really understand Jack's motivations.
Spoiler!
What was the point of revealing he plagiarized the songs?

John Lennon told him that only the truth would bring him happiness. By telling the truth, the world would leave him alone (because he’s not the greatest song writer ever) and he could then be with Ellie.
My understanding, anyway.

I was on vacation this year for most of the festival so I missed out. I’ve only heard great things about Parasite, I’m dying to see it

Saw Ad Astra last night and echo the thoughts of others here. Overall I really enjoyed it. It is worth seeing, if only for the moon car chase and the bio vessel reveal - which elicited a very loud "oh ####!" from me in the theatre.

I generally hate musicals, but really liked Rocketman. I too was expecting a Bohemian Rhapsody clone, but ended up surprised. I found BR pretty flat, but thought that Rocketman did a much better job of conveying the emotion of the protagonist's story.
When comparing movies based on tv shows, I liked Downton Abbey better than El Camino. Except elderly people are worse than kids on the theatre. They talked at full volume the whole movie and got up to use the bathroom at least twice as often.

What I enjoyed about watching the Downton Abbey movie in the theatre was that it was just a long episode watched by fans.
Everyone knows more or less how its going to end, theres not much suspense and a lot of fan service but everyone was enjoying it.

Just watched Upgrade. Really enjoyed it, great lead performance, solid acting all around, good atmosphere, story keeps to basics which works for a movie like this. Would recommend in general, it's a good scifi action thriller. Easily one of the best cyberpunk movies I've seen. These kinds of short, nasty stories just work way better when done outside the AAA Hollywood system.
Absolute must see if you're into cyberpunkish scifi. I'd put it easily into top 10 in the genre
It's not breaking any new ground, but it's very well executed.
Ahh, great to have a day of doing nothing and just catching up on some stuff I wanted to see
Other movies I saw today besides Upgrade. Which was the best.
Incredibles 2 was pretty much as expected. Very well done, entertaining and everything, really solid as a superhero film. I couldn't however help but feel like it kind of tried too hard at times, especially with the family relations stuff. But really that's more of a nitpick. Would recommend.
Hotel Artemis... It was nice, but felt really pointless. There was also just a completely unnecessary amount of "plot", or twists for no purpose, for a movie that wasn't really going anywhere. The story really needed for Jodie Foster to carry the whole thing and be someone the audience cares about, but she was easily the least interesting part of the whole thing, outside of the question of "why is she in this movie"? It's an okay movie, but there's so many better movies out there, so would not recommend.
The First Purge. Haven't seen the others, and based on this likely won't see them either. Great concept on paper, but I felt like the film ultimately just went through the motions. The execution is fine, but basic. Check it out if you want to support hot topic film making, but if you just want the good bits, read the plot synopsis and you won't miss out on anything.
