That's not entirely fair, the guy had major surgery and missed most of last year. I think with a healthy off season to get back in shape he can still be good.

Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
Ducks only had 4-6 teams to work with trade-wise as per Perry’s list - he had a full no-move. Anaheim couldn’t find a trade partner so buyout it is.

I'm actually surprised Perry chose to only give the Ducks 5 teams to go to. Why throw away 1/3rd of your millionaire salary just to be picky where you go? I find it hard to believe a player would rather be bought out and lose that guaranteed salary, then suck it up and get the full salary elsewhere.
There must be some kind of backdoor/secret handshake deal his agent has with a team elsewhere to make up for it during UFA period. It's not like his contract was front loaded either. He genuinely lost a ton of money.

That's definitely a possibility, but on a cheapish one year deal, I think it's worth the risk. Plus, before last year it's not like he missed a lot of hockey.

Also, random but somewhat related thought. Is Perry going to be the first Hart trophy winner that doesn't get into the Hall of Fame after retiring?

Remember when Jose Theodore robbed Iginla of the Hart?

No, there are already 3 who aren't in: Tommy Anderson (1941–42); Al Rollins (1953–54); and Jose Theodore (2001-02).
I don't know anything about the first two guys, but I'd guess if they're not in by now, they never will be.
Theodore definitely didn't have a Hall of Fame career (nor a Hart Trophy season, but that's an argument for another day).
Also, I don't know if Sedin is a shoe-in for the HHOF.

Ah my bad, it must be the Art Ross where everyone that has won it is in the Hall of fame.

Probably, since they had basically 3 decades of no one but Gretzky, Mario, & Jagr.
Although I don’t see Jamie Benn making the HHOF, so this stat may change (if true).

As much as I hate Corey Perry, I'd take a flyer on him. A 1yr/1M deal would be very low risk and high reward.
He might not be able to move down the ice as fast as he use to, but he can still use his big frame to hold on to pucks down low, draw penalties and be a scoring presence in front of the net.
If he stays healthy, I could see him scoring 20 goals on a high value deal.

And we'll have to see about the Sedins. Henrik just squeaked by the 1000 point mark and only had 280 goals. Daniel was a little better in both categories. I suspect they get in but I don't think it's the slam dunk some do.

You do know that a buy out means he was bought out of his contract, right?

Yes, so he gets 2/3 of his remaining salary. He doesn't get as much as originally promised. Unless I'm missing something here?

Ah! But the loophole here is I believe you dont have to pay Escrow on a buyout so he might actually be walking away with more money!

Well, escrow isn't that much.

They should make it in - if Paul Kariya (f you Gary Suter) is in the Hall of Fame I don't see how both Sedins don't make it.
They may take a few years but the peak seasons and the overall unique aspect of twins who were respected around the league should push them over the edge.
I suspect that eventually Perry would get in much like Cam Neely

The only way I'd take Perry is a 1 year $1M contract, and if he plays in front of the net the entire time. A big body with hands can always be useful for PPs. Aside from that the skating has passed him by and with today's NHL I really don't think you can have more than a body or two on your roster who are slower than average.
