Default Sharks’ Joe Thornton confirms he will return for 2019-20 season

Joe Thornton‘s Hall of Fame career will continue for at least one more season.

The long-time San Jose Shark confirmed to media at the NHL Awards in Las Vegas that he plans on playing next season and potentially beyond that.

Yep, figured. Really cool bonus the Sharks have in Thonrton. The perfect aging player scenario.

While other teams have to worry about the perfect length of contract for aging players that almost always burn them, Thornton just says "Yeah, we'll just check in at the end of each year and see if it makes sense for me to play another year....oh and just give me whatever cap you have left over after making the team the best you can make it".

Fine with me, he becomes less effective every year and takes a chunk of their cap.
Hope he plays until he's 50.

Play as long as you like, just do us all a favor and never score 4 goals in a game...

You know what...I like Thornton. As much as the Sharks can GTFO I like Joe Thornton.

He seems like a cool guy with a good attitude and he understands his skill-set and hes going to keep on keepin' on.

Go forth Joe! And multiply your glorious beard!

Not to mention he is pure class and a great teammate. He is willing to take a major discount to ensure that the best Sharks players remain intact.

It is ideal and very rare. Joe can still put up some points and play. Unlike many others that play power forward and body breaks down. Then they cannot score or skate or even check on a 4th line.

I can’t think of too many that could fit in the same category of still can play and is super loyal to their team.

Me too. Playing another ten years would be great. Guy is the heart and soul of this team. Sets the tone, makes everyone feel included (and want to stay here) and tells his boss to shut his mouth when appropriate (https://www.mercurynews.com/2015/03/...hut-his-mouth/)

Guy is a hall of famer that any team would sign for the same money for one year.

So that is what the Sharks are really doing? Threatening to severely injure their best players if Thornton does not comply with their terms for another year? Management by fear, figures.

He will wait until late summer and sign for whatever expendable cap space is left. It’s what Thornton has done the last two years now.

Thornton is awesome. When they asked if he'd be back next year he said yeah maybe another 10 years, 5-10 years. Just a wicked response.

Doug Wilson said that there will always be a place for Joe Thornton for as long as he wants to play.
