The Jimmy G hype is crazy, he may be good but his stats last year were similar to Kaep the year prior

I think he's a starter, but seems more likely to be an above average guy but not great.

To me that was a situation to franchise, even if he has a great year he's not getting much more money than he did now. That much money after 7 starts? Crazy

Could easily be another Cassel

Also the falcon/Shanahan stuff is way overblown, Ryan was a good Qb before Shanahan, and he was good last year, they still finished 9th in dvoa on offense, which isn't great but teams have up and down years.

For the 49ers, franchising him just doesn't make sense given their cap situation. If they were tight against it franchising makes sense, but they aren't. Once you franchise him, unless he's one of the absolute worst starters in the league the following year, you're going to have to sign him long term, or franchise him again and end up with a Cousins situation which is untenable. And if they franchise him and he is amazing, you're looking at another $5-10 million a season added to the average, especially since Cousins will get huge money this year, setting the market going forward. So you roll the dice, and if he's above average it's a market value deal, and if he hits his ceiling it becomes, relatively speaking, a bargain.

Above average but not great is worth $25 or so million a year now. That's just reality. Average is now $20-25 million a year (see Flacco, Tannehill, Dalton etc...). Market is obviously broken, but at the same time desperation is also everywhere. Had Garoppolo gotten to market, he probably gets a similar deal to what the 49ers gave him from a desperate team like the Bills, Browns or Jets. At some point maybe we'll start to see corrections and the price of guys starts to come down, but we're several years away from that at a minimum.

You look at guys who've played more than Garoppolo like Winston and Mariota, or even a Dak or Goff, and would you really want to give any of them the contract Garoppolo just got? Not really, but you also don't really have a choice since getting another similar QB either costs $25-30 million a year (in the rare event one is even available), significant draft capital to move up in the draft to where one is available, getting robbed like the Redskins did for Alex Smith, getting lucky like the Seahawks with Wilson, or having to tank, and doing so in the right year. Just not many palatable options other than just paying the money.

Luck is stupidly over rated. I think the Colts job is almost as bad as any job out there. Awful defense, no run game, oft-injured quarterback.

I was kind of surprised McDaniels was going to take the job in the first place. That organization has been a mess for a while now and anything less than 100% healthy Luck and they don't have a chance.

while I agree he is overrated, I would like to see what he is on a good team where he isn't trying to comeback all the time because his defense is so poor, I think that is at least partially responsible for his high interception rate. put him on Minnesota or JAX and I think he might be elite, doesn't have to force it.

I dont agree Luck is overrated at all.

he has thrown up some pretty stellar numbers behind what has consistently been panned as a less than average O-line who had him running for his life most days.

His health is a concern though. When you start missing entire seasons, things dont get any easier.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced Tuesday that they do not plan to re-sign linebacker Derrick Johnson.

Johnson will be a free agent when the new league year begins on March 14 and he said in the Chiefs' statement Tuesday he plans "on playing for several more years."
It's just business.

The thing with these types of personnel decisions...better to be a year early than a year too late.

Chiefs need to get younger and quicker on defence.

Johnson was a really solid player for the Chiefs...but I'll always spite that they didn't take Aaron Rogers with that pick, knowing that Trent Green had maybe 2 years left. Yes they were in win now mode at the time...but I remember screaming at my radio to take Rogers knowing that the value really was too good to pass up.

AJ McCarron won his grievance against the Bengals and will join the QB frenzy as a UFA. Browns are obviously the logical landing spot, but it'll be fascinating in this era of QB desperation to see if someone gives him a stupid contract on the back of one decent performance in a playoff game.

QB is the most important position in NFL. 15% of the salary cap is not that much, if you think he's that much of a difference maker.

Compare to the NBA. Guys like LeBron should be making literally 75%+ of the cap in that league.

Marcus Peters getting traded appears to be utterly insane on the surface. Let's see what the return is.

It will be interesting to see what the return will be.

Peters is a guy who's a very good ball hawk...but a terrible tackler. The fact that the Chiefs drafted him where they did was largely due to off field issues vs talent.

There was a stretch from Week 7 until he was suspended where Peter's really didn't do much of anything. He was actually pretty bad. But after the team imposed suspension he came out inspired again, and was able to create some turnovers. Still you can find many highlights of him trying to grab the ball from a guy only to have the player finally get tackled 30 yards down the field.

I don't think he was really long for Kansas City, and he likely wants a few more dollars on his contract if he's going to report to camp this year too. I expect Tyreek Hill will also be looking for more money too, so there could be cap reasons for making the move too.
