It was a nothing game, both teams played like it, the Finnish team has practiced and played together for four weeks, Canada hasn't. Plus Jukka Jalonen is one of the all time greats of Finnish coaching, and this is the team he picked. Its only "the worst team ever" if you think coaching and practice time doesn't matter at all.

So it's only a "huge upset" if you ignore absolutely everything.

It'll be an actual upset if this happens in the games that matter.

K....is the fact the Czechs just mopped the floor with Sweden considered a big upset?

Certainly the Slovaks feeding USA their lunch is...and i would suspect Finland beating Canada at any time a bit of one as well, though that is one depleted Canadian squad.

Yeah, if you look it that way, every game is a nothing game before the quarterfinals anyway, but the so called "experts" gave no chance to Finland at all, so it's kind of an upset.

Just goes to show "experts" suck at what they do

Dare to dream.....as long as it doesn't go to a penalty shoot out against Germany...

(Somehow missed this comment earlier.)

I think the first day pretty decisively proved my point. In the early stages of the tournament, the teams that have had a lot of time to practice together have a noticeable advantage over NHL heavy squads. The motivation level is also extremely different for the "underdogs" at this stage.

Give Canada, Sweden and USA a few more games and a practices together, and they should start rolling. (Assuming they also find a winning attitude.)

Drysaddle continues his stellar defensive zone play and Great Britain ties the game.

Well it wasn't to be but a great game for GB to openthe tournament. This was one of the games they needed to get points from to stay up but going to be hard now. We had a really good plan but that bit of extra qulity stood out in the end.

Drysaddle using those excellent No Good defence techniques to provide GB with the goal.

Kaapo Kakko is the name of the day. As a fan of his Finnish club TPS, you just keep getting surprised of his level of competition. Very happy to see him go to the Eastern conference, especially after the regular season draft lottery odds.
