they just draw them randomly into the 16 spots.

Kind of surprising they don't place qualifiers based on current atp ranking. Is this the same for all the majors?

Only the seeds get specific placement. Everyone else random draw.

yep.
it's like the players from 33-128 (including the 16 qualifying spots) get randomly placed in the main draw.
I think the qualifers got a bad draw this time, i think half will be playing seeded players with Dmitrov being the worst.
The best one by far would be Kypson, the USTA junior champion.

Looks like Murray got the easiest draw, would have been better for Nadal/Fed to be the number 2 seed. Fed vs Krygios in 4th round could be the match of the tournament. Rafa has a very tough road to his sweet 16.

Yeah, I don't recall seeing this many qualifiers up against seeds in any of the previous majors this year.
So long as Shapovalov doesn't draw that death spot against Zverev I won't be too upset. He could definitely beat anyone else he may land in the first round with the way he's been going.

Even against Zverev, Shapovalov didn't look hopelessly outmatched in Montreal. Definitely one of the worst draws he could get, but also a good chance to take what he learned in Montreal and see if he can adapt.

No, I agree he didn't look completely outmatched in Montreal.
The big thing for me being that he would have to play much cleaner at the net and on his own service games. This is achievable given the strides he has made, however, doing that consistently over a best of five match is a much different beast against someone who is probably the third best player in the world right now.

The men's draw has been updated for the qualifiers. Denis will play Daniil Medvedev in the opening round and if he wins will likely face Jo-Willy Tsonga in round 2.

It looks like Milos has withdrawn from the Laver Cup and will be replaced with Krygios. As well in other news it's been confirmed that Roland Garos will start work on a statue of Nadal to be displayed outside Center Court. Truly deserved no tennis player (man or woman) has dominated a grand slam like Rafa at the French .

I guess that seals any hope of Milos coming to Edmonton for Davis Cup play. A shame really. I wonder if Laurendeau rolls the dice and gives Felix his debut. Would provide more excited than anybody else I think.

There's no way they run both FAA and Shapavalov out there. We'll see Pospisil and Shapovalov in singles if Milos is out. Maybe if we win out on Friday and Saturday, and both of Sunday's matches are dead rubbers, would we see FAA.

It might be Dancevic and Shapovalov. Pospsil can't play 3 matches anymore

So Murray pulled out of the US Open I don't know why he didnt do it before the draw came out. Now some LL will take his place instead of Fed being the #2 seed, and he had such an easy draw as well, maybe FAA will take his place.

I wonder if Adil Shamasdin teams up with Nestor for doubles and Pops just plays singles.

so they've shuffled the draw, i've never heard of this.
Cilic takes Murray's spot. Kohlschriber takes Querrey's spot.
Lukas Lacko is the lucky loser who takes Kohlschriber's spot.

That's crazy you think the organizers would want a Fedal finals so they would give Fed the 2 seed
