Google translate says its:
New: Elias Lindholm just confirmed that he will play the World Cup. Just the kind of reinforcement Tre Kronor needs.

So? Lots of sports/leagues/tournaments aren’t best on best, it doesn’t make them irrelevant.

I didn't say irrelevant. I said different from other tournaments.
I like the Worlds fine for kids that are trying to establish themselves or gain confidence. It's great for that. Lindholm, for example, could use a boost in ego right now.

If Gio gets an invitation, he better goes. I think that if he repeatedly turns down Team Canada invitations he may not be considered for the next Olympic team.

Green text I hope. There is no way a 38-39 year old Gio makes the Oylmpic team if the NHL participates.

This year Giordano is one of top 3 defencemen in the whole league. I think he stands an excellent chance to be 1 of 7 or 8 defencemen for Team Canada in 2022, which is just 3 years away...

I remember Joe Nieuwendyk blowing out his knee at the 1990 Worlds. Players can do what they want. I do not begrudge them for not wanting to take on additional risk. Seems like a wise career decision

I personally look forward to the Worlds. I lived in Germany in 1998 and even casual hockey fans were into it. Playing Canada is a big deal for every other country. I know it doesn't matter a lot in North America but the fact that it's a big deal in Europe makes me want Canada to be well represented and do well. I think it's important that we show well on the international stage and that Canadian players see value in representing their country and giving back to the system which supported them. I always loved Ryan Smyth's attitude that everyone hopes they're going to be playing hockey in May anyway so why not represent your country. But I also don't begrudge players for turning down an invitation.

I love the Worlds. Same with the Olympics.
That "world cup" was a complete joke. I get nauseous just thinking about it.

The Worlds doesn't feature the best talent in the world. The World Cup does. Can you explain why it's a complete joke?

I doubt the NHL gets back into the olympics, that ship has sailed already. In fact in the current political climate an overall boycott may be in the cards for Beijing Games. Then the next olympics will have an Italy/Sweden host, I think we have seen the last of it as the Olympics is moving towards the newer x-games type of sports.
If the players really want to play, the NHL owners will exact a very high price from the players in the collective bargaining agreement, they will not be willing to give that up.

Thank you for the insightful comment, President Trump!
Anyways, if the NHL is not interested in going to the Beijing Olympics, why are they staying exhibition games there? The NHL is going to where they can expand the market and make money, and China is one of those places right now. NHL is already behind the NBA and the EPL for like 20 years to go to Asia, if they don't it now they may never be able to reach there.

I always like it when players go to the worlds. It shows a passion for the game and competition. Isn’t that a good thing?
I recall Hamilton’s first year here and when he declined, it was so he could focus on training for next season.

Define "care". Even most NHL fans don't actually care enough to watch after their team is out. Typical current TV audiences for the Stanley cup final series is something like 3-6M per game. The highest rated Stanley Cup final game ever had 12M viewers. (Montreal-Chicago game seven, 1971).
The 2017 IIHF World Championships had an average audience of 19M per game. A Germany-Ukraine group phase game probably "absolutely crushes" your average Stanley Cup TV audience.

The newest installment of World Cup was a complete joke because of: TEAM EUROPE & TEAM NA U-23.
Canada & USA didn't even get their best players because of that joke.
Team Europe had all the "outcasts", I mean Finland, Sweden, Czech Republic & Russia, they are from Europe also.
Zero excitement, the World Cup was held in the off-season, which lowers the excitement even further. Just a quick cash grab from NHL, just awful.

I would argue that a number of great players wouldn't have been included at all but for Team Europe and Team NA. I'd rather watch a team with Chara, Neideraiter and Kopitar together than watch their countries get pummeled.
Team NA was pretty exciting and competitive, and ensured that guys like Scheifele got to play. At that time I'd argue only McDavid missed out on being on Team Canada. Gaudreau missed out on team USA. But that team was pretty bad anyway.

point, marner, tkachuk - three very good young players who will likely take a pass on this tourney given their current contract or lack thereof status
