Do you honestly believe that elite-level professional trainers with unfettered access to high end physicians and medical experts are not on top of this?

Also, I think it's possible that we see this exact line as our 4th line at some point this season.

He's 18 and plays one of the hardest positions to break into. Now that Treliving believes we can contend there's no chance IMO that they have an 18 year old dman learning on the job. Rookie mistakes at that position easily lead to goals against, not a risk to take when we're going for it and there's so many more experienced dmen to choose instead. And the best thing for Valimaki's development is likely going back to junior playing huge minutes in all situations there and being a huge part of Finland's WJC team. Here he wouldn't see PP time, he'd be benched for mistakes and he'd likely start to lose confidence in his offensive abilities.

He's been good but at his age he'd have to be unreal for them to keep him. I'd say there's almost no chance he makes team for the above reasons.

I wonder if Valimaki's contract status will also work against him. If he starts this season, then he will be an RFA in the same summer that Brodie, Hamonic, Frolik, and Stone are finished their contracts. I could see the Flames looking at that and thinking that unless he absolutely forces his way onto the team, it would be nice to have him under contract in the last year of his entry-level deal in the 2020-21 season. It will be particularly helpful if the Flames are ultra competitive at the time to have a solid D man playing for a lower salary so they can add pieces to areas of weakness.

His contract absolutely will not allow him to make this team. He is eligible for a double slide so essentially they send him back to the dub for this year. Next year he plays the entire year in the AHL. The following year he makes the big team and you still have him for 3 full years on his ELC.

This is the most likely scenario, however if he makes big strides this year I could see him forcing himself onto the team next training camp.

It’s probably best for his development any ways to go dominate junior instead of playing 10 minutes a night on the bottom pairing.

Looks like Sam needs to show Johnny and Michael how to tie a tie.

Agreed. Lose this and I don't see any way we can catch Edmonton by the time the regular season starts

I hadn't even considered the double slide. Yeah, I would say that he is facing a huge uphill climb to make it this season. And, while he has been good so far, I actually think that Andersson was even better in his first main camp and he didn't get a sniff.

Huge night for Wotherspoon tonight. After Kulak and Bartkowski had a rough outing on Wednesday, the door is open right now for him. I was really disappointed in him last year as I thought he would win the spot and Kulak outplayed him. It'll be interesting to see if he can make the jump this time.

Ask Sidney Crosby about the high end physicians and medical experts employed by NHL teams.

That said, I have no reason to doubt the Flames here. It's certainly a little concerning Monahan has hurt his back training two years in a row, I'll say that.

He'll get a shutout and still have people complain. "He knew what to do, it was his former team." Or the double standard route --> "it's preseason hockey"

Are people just assuming it's Monahan's back? I haven't seen anything reported

This is why people like me seek out illegal streams. I'd happily sign up for Centre Ice early, but if given no alternative, I'll resort to the only available venue.

I was thinking more that the Glass-Stajan-Lazar is a more likely 4th line we could see this season. (Here's to hoping glass isn't a full time guy, unless he really earns it)

Interesting, I was just thinking the same about the Glass-Stajan-Lazar line. Makes sense since those six players are fighting for the same spots. This should be a fun sub plot to follow tonight.

But I think the point was that with inevitable injuries the team will sustain over the course of the season a line of Hamilton-Hathaway-Jlimchuk is a very real (pleasant) possibility at some point.
