The Flames see something in him. 2nd round pick and a one way contract. They won't have changed their mind so quickly. Losing Byron has Treliving cautious about waivers as was evidenced with how they treated Ortio.

Still lots of time remaining in camp though, could turn things around and make a solid case to stay.

You mean like the fear of losing Byron to waivers that some of us had?

Draft Pick
|
Lazar hasn't really been given much time either in these preseason games. His last game he was given 11.5 minutes overall with 2.5 mins on pk. Hard for someone to get into the game without playing more than 8 mins 5v5. I know this is probably what he will see if he sticks for a while, but during preseason he needs some minutes to get his confidence up

Yeah, we protected the guy in the expansion draft. There hasn't been a large body of evidence since then to change strategy

Big Game for Lazar. Put up or shut up time tonight bud. Score a couple and force them to Sit Brouwer when Jags is ready to go.

I have little faith in Lazar, but I hope he does well. Could force Brouwer out of the line-up once Jagr comes in

Agreed, I've been routing for him since the trade and he has really only disappointed in camp and pre-season. He came out and talked about his confidence and his hard work and such today in an interview. "Good, I've heard you talk of this before.... Did you remember where you left it?"

Ha, I posted the same thing as you
I'll take Lazar but I'd rather have Hathaway on that fourth line

I like Lazar. I'm not sure what he is as a player, but I just really like his personality. He always has a smile on his face.
I hope tonight he plays well defensively, has some big hits and keeps that smile on his face as he starts to piss off the Jets.

No. Lazar has shown he should be in the minors. Never earned, always given.

If what Lazar has shown tonight can be done consistently, he will be a regular forward for the Flames throughout the season.

Based on this game, Lazar needs to stay in the lineup.

I don't think he's ever going to be flashy or put up a ton of points and I feel like a lack of offensive contribution has seen some people be harsher on him that they should be.
He's played well tonight and that's exactly what he should be doing in a bottom line / bottom six role. Playing hard, being defensively responsible and hopefully playing a bigger role on the PK moving forward.
He strikes me as a guy who will be a valuable role player in the playoffs.

We always said Bennett needs talent. Lazar needs talent and maybe they need each other.

I think Lazar sat and watched Tkachuk game film from last year. Relentless forecheck tonight, he forced the Jets to move the puck quickly and the skill of Bennett-Gaudreau fed off of that. He also found his positioning in front of the net. He needs to prove consistency, but for me he earned another game and pushing either Glass or Brouwer out.

A 4th line with janko and lazar would be better than a lot of team's 3rd lines.
Time for Stajan and Brouwer to munch popcorn.
Lazar is underrated... He could be this team's Shaun Donovan. Good wheels... Good forechecker... Ok hands.

Might be a bit of an overstatement for 2 guys with so little NHL mileage, but Lazar showed real energy tonight, and it paid off.
After yet another game where Brouwer looked unengaged and bored, I don't know how Lazar doesn't stick for another game in his place.

Thought Stajan was ok in his limited time. But Jankowski is right there.
