The only thing I see as being a big issue are controls. If you're playing a game with a joystick or a simple FPS, it wouldn't be so bad. But once you get into something with many different key bindings, not being able to see your keyboard would be a big obstacle
If I got one and had free time, my project would be to hook it up to two cameras video mounted to motorized gimbals that tracked according to head movement.
Then I'd mount that on things, like a quadrocopter or even just a rc car.

Yeah that's true, I could see wanting one of those dedicated controllers (Logitech G13 kind of thing), maybe easier for some to memorize the locations of keys.
You could also put a small camera on the front so that you could call up a real world view at will. That actually might be a good idea for nausea type stuff, hit a button and it kills the virtual view and gives you a real world view.

Sorry about resurrecting an old thread but I thought it was relevant. Me and a few local developers are holding a Rift Demo/tryout with our Oculus dev kits at Dickens pub this Sunday from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
If you want to check it out swing by! The thing is amazing!

That's a pretty great idea, I wish I was available.
I listened to a podcast the other day about the potential for the future of porn using the rift. As juvenile as that sounds, it was actually a very interesting discussion when it came to issues of morality (uploading somebody's likeness without consent).

Oculus introduced a new prototype at CES, Crystal Cove, which shows the direction they are going for the consumer model. It includes positional tracking, OLED screens, and low persistence to help with motion blur. Hopefully we'll see a consumer version sometime this year (probably Q3).

I only found out about this recently on Reddit. Very sad I missed it!

Damn! Would have been all over this. Let us know if you're going out in public with it again
