Depth is important but if anderson and valamaki continue to progress i think the flames should look at moving hamonic in the offseason for picks/quality prospects.

Just move Stone, honestly. No point in dealing Hamonic, he makes really reliable plays back there.

Would you re-up Hamonic after this contract? If not you trade him in the off season. Gotta get assets back in situations like that.

For sure, as long as he doesn't command over $4-$4.5 million for 4-ish years.

Interesting. I would think he would be 3rd pairing and that's big money for 3rd pairing.

Giordano won't last forever.
In the future, we might see something like this:
Hanifin - Hamonic
Giordano - Andersson
Valimaki - someone new
I think they need to deal Brodie moreso than Hamonic.

If at anytime Hamonic is on the top pairing I think the team is in big trouble

I honestly don't see what anyone sees in Hamonic. He's downright terrible.

Jets have waived Marko Dano to make room for a returning Nic Petan.
Dano was involved in some major trades:
- 2012-Feb-23 Draft pick rights traded from Los Angeles Kings with Jack Johnson to Columbus Blue Jackets for Jeff Carter
- 2015-Jun-30 Traded from Columbus Blue Jackets with Corey Tropp, Jeremy Morin, Artem Anisimov and round 4 pick in the 2016 draft (Anatoly Golyshev) to Chicago Blackhawks for Alex Broadhurst, Brandon Saad and Michael Paliotta
- 2016-Feb-25 Traded from Chicago Blackhawks with round 1 pick in the 2016 draft (German Rubtsov) and conditional pick in the 2018 draft to Winnipeg Jets for Jay Harrison, Matt Fraser and Andrew Ladd

Hamonic isn't terrible at all. He's been our second-best consistent defensive defender behind Giordano since the back-half of last season. I agree he likely shouldn't be on the top pairing but he could make do there especially if he plays with an improved Hanifin.
Dano's an okay player. It'd be funny if the Flames picked him up because he's yet another 2013 first-rounder. I don't think he'll get claimed by anyone, though.

Man do some people underrate Hamonic. Defensively he's better than anyone else except maybe Gio. Physically, he's better than anyone, period, including Stone, who isn't much to talk about in that regard.
I think some people's view of Hamonic is coloured by their dislike of the assets paid for him. That's as unfair as, say, hating Hanifin because you loved Hamilton.

Hanafin and Hamonic are going to be a terrific pairing.
Andersson and Valimaki have shown they are NHL ready.
Stone is expendible now.
This is as good as the d corps has looked in the past few years.

Stone has looked quite good.
Also, if Stone gets moved and we suffer 1 injury...what then? What if we suffer two injures - what then?

While we have the cap no reason to deal him. Keep him in case of injury. Guys solid in all areas, steady #5. If we continue to grow from within can always deal him at the draft for a 3rd and 5th.
Thing is that our system is filled with offensive Dmen, no one that is defensively minded is really knocking on the door.
Personally i keep him as long as we can, until the cap problems come due to raises, same goes for Frolik.
Depth wins championships

No. Multiple superstars win championships. How deep was the pens defence? Washington? Chicago? These teams rely on 3-4 good defencemen.

by early January the NHL and NHLPA need to decide if there will be a 2020 World Cup
NHL does not want to repeat the 04 World Cup where a lockout immediately followed the World Cup
it may lead to some interesting CBA discussions like changing the timing of re-opening the CBA, extending the CBA, Olympics etc
IIHF, NHL, NHLPA had a meeting about the Olympics
players remain adamant that they play in China
there is some political friction between Fasal (head of IIHF) and the IOC
Bergevin has let all GMs know he is open for business in terms of trading a forward
May soon have 16 healthy forwards and may lose one to waivers for nothing.
Names mentioned: Plekanec, Sherback, de la Rose, Deslaurier
Leafs don't want to go above $6.5 mil per with Nylander because it will effect how they fit in Matthews and Marner
Nylander is concerned that if he signs for around $6.5 he could be traded. He is not eligible for NTC/NMC in his RFA years
WJC games in Victoria 100% sold out and Vancouver is 84% sold
|
Thoughts on moving Frolik to habs for two of those players? Gives Habs an upgrade at f while creating roster flex and allows us to ditch 4.5 on 4th line/press box and create more competition on bottom six.

It’s early, but I’m a bit concerned with a Andersson’s foot speed. Always seems to be scrambling and a step or two behind.

He caught Nieto beautifully after it looked like a clear breakaway was coming.

I have nothing against Andersson and really like how he has progressed. However, Stone is better than him at this point in time. If the Flames are serious about winning, you dont trade Stone. I can't believe that even after seeing Hamonic go down to injury and Stone seamlessly taking on more responsibility, people still want him gone.
People on this board have bitched for ages that our defensive depth is poor and now that we finally have some, you want to trade it away. Lmfao.
