Default Atlanta - Any Recommendations

Heading down to Atlanta in a few weeks for a conference with a co-worker. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what to do in the area.

My only memory of Atlanta s getting stuck on one way streets downtown that spiraled 'right turn only' until I was at a dead end. So I'm afraid I'm not much help...

JCT Kitchen, Bacchanalia, Optimust. So many great places to eat and be sure to use Uber to get around.

Olympic Park has most of the touristy things: Aquarium (swim with the sharks!), World of Coca-Cola, Center for Civil and Human Rights
The Zoo is kinda lame unless you like pandas.
The High Museum of Art was quite impressive.
The Sound Table, Sister Louisa's Church of the Living Room & Ping Pong Emporium, or Joystick Gamebar on Edgewood Ave. Be sure to grab some street BBQ in one of the parking lots.
Catch a Hawks/Falcons/Bulldogs/GT game.

Coca-cola World was basically a big advertisement. I have heard the Georgia Aquarium is amazing, and I was sad not to make it there. You'll hear people talk about the Underground for shopping, but I recall it as being kind of dingy.

Do eat good Southern food. Have some grits, eat some fried catfish sandwiches and go to Fat Max's for barbecue. Even though it's not "real" (very slow cooked) barbecue, it's tasty.

Enjoy Atlanta! I really loved experiencing the warm southern hospitality of people when I was down there, and I hope you do, too.

Gay Capital of the South.

Check out Burkharts for some evening entertainment.

I went a couple years ago and enjoyed the visit. The Georgia Aquarium is impressive, but World of Coca-Cola was simply alright. Since they're right next to each other you might as well check both out at the same time.

There's tons of good Southern food there to try, so just go places and have something BBQ or something with lots of gravy! A place I went to eat called The Vortex was pretty memorable because of a statue they have in the entrance, and they actually had hockey on one of the TVs. The food and beer selection was decent too.

Atlanta is a pretty interesting place. The food was a highlight for me and I had a lot of great meals there! I'd be lying in bed trying not to die because I ate so much and think "I'm not doing that again tomorrow"...only to repeat that stupidity. I love Waffle House, although some people (my wife) don't have an appreciation for that kind of food. The Colonnade is good for fried chicken, OK Cafe is a must visit in my humble opinion for all kinds of great southern food (but no fried chicken if you're looking for that).

The aquarium is really cool. I skipped the World of Coke and CNN. The Center for Civil and Human Rights is really powerful, but it does depend on whether you're with the kids as they might not be super into it. Then you wander through the Olympic park and that's the main piece of the city to see I think. Piedmont Park is really nice as well, and on a nice day we had a good stroll through there.

Depending on when/why you're there a drive to the coast and Savannah is worth it. It's a great little city about 4 hours away.

Paschal's is amazing for a good southern meal. Awesome atmosphere too. The Underground is a bit overrated but still interesting. If you visit the World of Coke, do not, under any circumstances, try Beverly at the giant Coke dispenser where you can try everything. Trust me.

Whatever you do, make sure to stop at a Steak 'N Shake. DELISH. And Sonic, if they still have sweet potato tots. I've been looking for those for nearly 10 years at every store and still haven't found any.

When are you going? College football would be top of my list if it was September-November.

I'm there every year! I love Atlanta and the food is amazing.

Depending on a baseball game at Cobb field (which is stunning), there is a lot to do in that district.

Food notables were a trip to Decatur (on the Metro or Uber). It's a nice small town with two must not miss restaurants:
The Kimball House
The Iberian Pig

Also, they have an amazing authentic Tiki bar in a back alley in Decatur surprisingly called the S.o.S. Tiki Bar. Drinks are super unique; all super tasty and the decor is stunning.

Lazy Betty was also good. Always so much to taste and see.

This year I think I will go to Savannah.
