Tough decision, as you want to keep Hathaway’s grittiness in the line up (especially for the playoffs), as well as his PK’ing. Czarnik and Mangiapane bring a lot of speed to the lineup. I would rotate out Mangiapane and Czarnik to keep them hungry and competing for the minutes. Of course if Neal comes back in and doesn’t earn the minutes himeself, start rotating him in and out with Czarnik, or Mangiapane

Gets your top guys in the line up and allows the freedom to move Czarnik up to 3L or 2L, Neal up to 2L and Frolik to 4L if need be. Also keeps PP & PK intact
Czarnik is playing decent with Bennett and Jankowski, but I think he's the one that sits out for Neal. Both being RWers. I agree, Hathaway will play.

Doesn't matter. Neal's not sitting eating popcorn and hes not playing on line 4. Czarnik while playing well is still only a depth placeholder.

I think Czarnik's lack of recent production (1 point in the last 7 games) will provide Peters justification in him being the odd man out when Neal returns.

Yeah that's what I was trying to say. Could you imagine Neal killing penalties?
Hathaway brings a skill that Neal just doesn't have. Neal theoretically brings goal scoring that Hathaway can't, but...

You want neal in game shape by playoff time.
Neal will draw in when he gets back into the lineup, someone will definitely sit out because of it.

Yeah I agree Czarnik will come out. He's pretty small. And what is with the Cz at beginning of his name? Make up your mind - should be Zarnik or Sarnik.

That is not the only reason. That is the most seemingly evident reason based on the numbers, but I suspect that the coaches believe James Neal can be a difference maker in the playoffs on the basis of his impressive history.

Insert recency discussion from other thread...

But I don't disagree. He will be given every opportunity to recapture the magic. To a point.

Hence the mention of Neal's "impressive history." Unlike both Rittich and Mike Smith for whom recent performance is viewed to be an important factor Neal has a pretty solid track record of playoff success. I am unsure why some posters continue to believe that every player is—and should be—evaluated by precisely the same criteria every time. The coaches will choose different players to play in the playoffs for different reasons.

I don't disagree, but that grace also can't last forever. Basically been the whole season's excuse for his play, so if it doesn't come to fruition I hope the coaching staff acts quickly rather than drag him along as they have for the season.

That said, I'm much more hopeful that Neal gets inserted and finds his game, as that's obviously best case scenario.

Why would you put in Neal ahead of anyone?

Every player in the lineup right now is better than Neal.

Is it a coincidence that the bottom 2 lines just happened to kick it into high gear right after Neal is out of the lineup?

Neal looks worse than Brouwer did.

If I'm coaching the flames, Neal gets in when someone gets hurt and not before.

You put Neal in because despite his struggles he is a top 6 winger who probably just needed a rest. He is also a beast in the post season.

Did anyone else get a notification from NHL.com saying Treliving was interviewed on the Jim Show Show haha?

https://www.jimrome.com/articles/brad-treliving

A few comments to summarize:

-asked about Gaudreau breaking out. Tre wasn't worried and had a feeling he would break out against the Devils.
-asked how to balance resting for playoffs with winning division. Tre says the team hit a wall with the tough schedule and Peters is working hard to find a balance by giving players time off.
-asked about trade deadline and not making any moves. Tre wanted to add depth defence and was excited about getting Oscar. Also wanted an impact player up front but were not prepared to pay the high cost for a rental.
-asked about wild pig story. In Arizona he went out for a run and ran into these horrible looking wild pigs. He ran away thinking he was being chased and ran into some random's garage hahahaha.
-asked about playing in the ECHL and what his plans were at the time for life after hockey. Tre told how it was a great time in his life where he learned the business of hockey and met his wife.
-asked how his father being an entrepreneur helped him. Tre talked about learning how to follow your dreams and having the dedication to get there.

So happy Trevling is GM. He always says the right thing. Also, say what you want about Rome but he is pretty good at interviews. Also I enjoyed hearing him say "we are talking Calgary Flames hockey in the jungle".
