I'm going to say it's years of fan shell shock from stressful stretch runs that didn't turn out very well.

Have to remind ourselves that the current iteration of the team is much more capable.

Only back to back is isles/devils so almost no travel

Will be great test. May be first time they face any real adversity? Potential is there. Hopefully not
Yeah that month is as ugly a travel schedule as i ever remember seeing.

Fortunately the Flames picking up 19 of 22 points in January gives them some room for absorbing what surely will be a less successful February.

I would think if they can come out of this month with 16 of the 26 pts available, they will be in very good shape to finish on top of the division and likely the conference as March sets up for some real success as well.

With that said. I think The Yotes have a solid 10% chance to make it in.

This Feb stretch is going to tell us a lot about what kind of team we have. Tough schedule against good teams with lots of travel. It is different this year in that we are going to the dance either way, but if they really struggle (<.500) then my expectations for a deep run will soften for sure.

I think we learn a lot this month. And, Smith is going to play. So get your rabbit feet out and start rubbing!

February will be a tough stretch with a lot of games against playoff bound teams, but it is more than made up by what should be a much easier March & April to finish out the season.

Bru-tal scheduling. I hope they're getting some solid rest on their breaks.
If they navigate this month at something like .550 they win the div imo. February is the first big test to see what we have here.

I am not really worried about this stretch run. Flames have been blessed with good health, especially to their key players. Knock on wood this continues.

Once this team got going early in the season, they showed one attribute that all good teams have - they don't lose multiple games in a row.

Flames come to play every game. They even didn't come to play for a stretch there, and still managed to pile on the wins.

That's what you want to see from good teams. You also want to see a coach respond the right way - and that means being upset when the Flames play sloppy games even if they win.

Yes, both the quality of competition is going to ramp up a bit in this next stretch, but that may be a good thing too. Flames need to play against better teams to elevate their game for this stretch drive. Having stiffer competition helps to ensure they don't start getting a bit too complacent, and then suddenly find themselves in some desolate valley accumulating losses.

This stretch drive is going to be really fun to watch as a Flames fan this year. They are entering it in a rather healthy state - I imagine most of the nagging injuries that a bunch of players were probably playing through have healed up. Peters seems to have a really good feel for the team and what buttons need to be pressed as well. Ward seems like a really strong tactician as well.

I actually have no feeling of trepidation. Just positive excitement. Sure, there will be losses along the way - Flames aren't going to be perfect until the end of the season. I just want to see a team that takes another small step in play overall, and goes into the playoffs peaking and full of confidence and swagger. Just really excited to see the rest of this season play out.

Figured I would run this weekly. Starting to become a two horse race in the Pacific. That SJ game should be a dandy for what is at stake.

And it's now a 4 horse race in the western conference.

Geez, bit of a slow return after the break...2 games, then a 3 day break, which is the longest they get for the rest of the season. Need more Flames hockey now!

The way I look at it is that it’s compressing the rest of the season which will mean a ton of hockey down the stretch into the playoffs!

I'm worried that they haven't been great since the break - not terrible but sloppy. If they don't straighten it out soon the next stretch could be difficult and they may be looking up at SJ before long. It's refreshing that only seeding is at stake this year though.

Update for this week. Big game against TB that will determine the fate of this 7-game segment.

I added a column for change from the previous week.

Despite a pretty bad week for the Flames, still a decent amount of movement outside of SJ.
