We are about a Jagr and Iginla away from competing with an elite team like the Oilers

Listening to the post-game show, Ryan Hushka said coaching staff were keenest on what Jankowski, Mangiapane and Valimaki could do.

Yes, this 100%. It was a split squad pre-season game.
Take the pitchforks out when the season/playoff chances are on the line.

Hushka thinks Kylington has Brodie upside. Still a work in progress.

Jankowski and Bennett may just elevate the Flames this season.
With a great beard comes great responsibility.

I always hate losing to the Oilers, no matter what.
I've learned over the years to relax about preseason games. It's the same in every sport. These games are truly meaningless.
Yes, it would feel better had we won both or even one of these games but I will not lose a minute of sleep over what transpired in Calgary and/or Edmonton this evening.

Over on HF Oil, Yamamoto isn't Gaudreau. He's better.

I was at the Saddledome game. Best player on the ice, by far, was Kailer. He is a real honest player. He doesn't cheat for offence (unlike his flame counterpart), he finishes checks, he goes to dirty areas.

I think Yamamoto definitely has the upside to be even better than Gaudreau. That's saying a lot at this early stage... but he has intelligence, speed, great hands and the drive and intensity to be a success in the NHL.

Hushka is big on Klimchuk as a Dark Horse prospect.

Was at the 'Dome. After Monahan's goal the team started to slow down. But I will say that Jankowski was very noticeable. Used his reach multiple times to win the puck battle and stuck out in a good way. Scored a beauty goal. I have ZERO doubt he is an NHL player.

Well that's it, might as well give the Cup to the Oilers. I mean, look how well last seasons pre-season champs did (Vancouver). Also Loubardias was talking a lot how the Flames practices has been lots of drills and teaching and haven't even had one scrimmage yet. Not worried in the slightest.

Was at the home game so didn't catch the other one, but to me Jankowski and Dube both really stood out. I thought the vets were kind of going through the motions, but I don't really blame them. I thought Gaudreau looked good. Gio was awful.
Smith was not good tonight but it's only half a game. Gillies made two excellent saves, one on a breakaway and one glove save on the ice that was going in.
Sounds like Bennett was really good in Edmonton.

The first two goals on Smith were both timing issues. He just wasn't 100% set for the shots when they came and the just dribbled through. If his timing was at par, those are easy saves for him. I remember Kipper doing the same thing back in 08 or 09 in his first preseason game.

I know it is pre-season, but I thought Smith looked awful tonight, given his comments about coming into training camp motivated.
I don't want to get down, but a team as fragile as the Flames have been in net, need a guy that doesn't give up such softies.

Was at the home game, impressed by most forwards actually, Janko, Vertseeg, Dube, Ferland, Brouwer, Mangiapane all impressed, and Johnny/Monahan/Backlund/Frolik rarely have an off night. Valimaki and Dougie impressed me most on defence, while Brodie and Kylington had their moments. Gillies was solid in net
