Default Looking for a Butcher

I have really gotten into smoking and I am looking for cuts of meat that I cannot get from the grocery store. Namely things like pork belly and full pork shoulder. Can anyone recommend a butcher, hopefully in the north Calgary area, with decent pricing?

I've been smoking for about 15 years, and I haven't had a lot of joy with butchers in this city. Most look at you like you have three eyes if you ask for ribs trimmed St. Louis style, and act put out if you ask them to remove the membrane.

I've had luck at Superstore getting pork shoulders. Sometimes they package the picnic and butt separately, but they're good size and good value.

Master Meats would be my first suggestion, too.

Jan's Meats on Crowchild and 2nd Ave might have what you're looking for. They're pretty accommodating.

There are a number of markets around town you could check out in fact, but I have no idea of their prices or selection: Lina's (Centre St. N), Polcan (Heritage Dr.), Cracovia (Macleod), and Italian Centre (they might only do deli?) (Fairmount Dr.)

I got a couple pork bellies at Red Deer Lake meats for a decent price. It's south of 22X though, so no where near the north.

Bon Ton carries pork belly. Its one of the staple cuts they keep in their main display case.

Not sure about the full pork shoulders.

I usually buy 1/2 a cow from tkranch.com, excellent grass feed and finished meat.

If you contact TK Ranch they can offer all sorts of cuts. Whole pork belly, or sliced. Fresh pork roasts, or smoked. They're between Chestermere and Strathmore. And deliver within the city for free.

I haven't used them, but have been through their slaughter house in Ponoka.

I used to go here a lot when I lived closer. Great meat for sure.
