Still think there's room for more scoring. Hopefully Bennett is the answer along with a few other guys like Shinkaruk and Jankowski and Foo.

GG kind of touched on this saying that the last 2 games they will focus on putting guys (vets) and overall team where they should be. For these first games I think it is more a case of giving new guys some challenges to see how they stack up.

I think the critique of Smith by some is a little premature and unfair considering he is playing under a new system with new players and prospects. We are not playing our A team ...this is just a split squad.

Also, new pads. Roll your eyes if you want, but that always plays a role with goalies.

Vets like Gio are just trying out their new equipment at this point...why would he go full out for split squad games??? Suprosed he wasn't on the bike in the third period.

Definitely. If Smith's crappy play spills over into the season, does he consider switching white pads like Elliott?

I think it's fair to be concerned, so long as it's not too extreme. Given the way this team has started each and every season except one since the 2004-05 lockout, going 1-4 so far in Penticton and the split squads has me at concern level: "raised eyebrow".

If we continue to sputter in the next game, I may raise that to "knitted brow".

I understand people who are totally unconcerned because these games are at the far end of the meaninglessness spectrum. I also understand people who are quite concerned, as I think they have a right to be sensitive about poor starts and poor goaltending.

I'm trying to focus on the fact that the skaters who need to impress seem to be doing so.

That was more superstition than discomfort though. May have been a bit of both I suppose.

Why would the results in Penticton make you feel anything at all? That tournament is a showcase for players who are knocking on the door to the NHL.

This was a split squad game.

Neither matters.
