I hope he wears the same style helmet as the other Colin Campbell.

Greg Carey's college hockey career is over (barring a slim chance to get invited to the NCAA tournament).

May get signed in the next couple of days.

Has an incredible release.

Carey would be a good signing, wish he was a RH shot though.

PPG and led his team in scoring in each of his years in College, that is pretty remarkable at that level.

Are three other players that come to mind off the top of my head. I am sure there are a few others as well. Technically Justin Schultz/Blake Wheeler were NCAA free agents too.

Wheeler and Schultz are a different breed in that they were drafted players who opted for free agency. As opposed to guys never drafted.

in addition:

Andy Greene
Mark Letestu
Ryan Carter
Teddy Purcell
Derek Smith
Kevin Westgarth
Ben Scrivens
Tyler Bozak
Torey Krug
Erik Gustafsson
Chris Tanev
Carter Hutton

all past lockout.

One team in particular that has had some nice success signing college players in recent years is Tampa Bay.

2011 Cory Conacher
2012 J.T. Brown
2013 Andrej Sustr

Conacher was excellent for them last season and they then traded him for a good young starting goaltender. Brown has earned a job in their bottom six by now and Sustr is a valuable third pairing defenseman going forward.

I'd like van Riemsdyk. Nice mix of size & skill, plus he's got the RH shot that would come in handy.

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
1) Some conversation tonight about Hamilton's Greg and Matt Carey, who both play at St. Lawrence. Greg's excellent college career is over...

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
2) he is free to sign an NHL deal as a free agent. But, a couple of teams believe Matt will go pro, too. There is a lot of interest...

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
3) with CHI taking a long look at him last weekend.

Matt is slightly taller than Greg (6'1'' vs 5'11'') and plays center

I know Trevor Van Reimsdyk is hurt but I wouldn't mind the Flames picking up the right handed, 6'2" D man.

^Chicago may be interested in the Carey brothers, but they only have 3 contracts available, and have 3 college senior draftees to sign

Depends on if the Carey brothers are willing to sign AHL ATOs for the rest of this season and have their NHL contracts come into effect on July 1st.

Blackhawks also have very little cap room. They're looking at bringing Teravainen over from Finland but might be forced to put him in Rockford until the playoffs.

Anything is possible, but the better college UFAs typically leverage that status to signing an NHL contract asap to burn a year of their ELC

His junior season seems like an anomaly. Could be one of those years where a guy's shooting percentage goes through the roof as his assists stay pretty consistent year to year, but it was the goals that went through the roof that year.

Just a theory though, without the shots stat, i don't know if its accurate.

Speaking of Chicago's unsigned college seniors. I know Hayes perhaps heading to UFA has been discussed, but keep an eye on Stephen Johns.

Scouting reports has him as a Sieloff type player, but he is taller (6'3''), heavier (230lbs), shoots right and has a bit more offensive upside (.36pts/g in the NCAA).

Mike McMahon ‏@MikeMcMahonCHN 39m
Per a source, Greg Carey will make his decision today. Several NHL teams in play. Younger brother Matt Carey is choosing btwn 3 teams.

Mike McMahon ‏@MikeMcMahonCHN 38m
Matt Carey just finished his frosh. season. Scored 37pts in 38gp and he's 22 years old.

Mike McMahon ‏@MikeMcMahonCHN 33m
Greg Carey is 23, and just finished his sr. year. 57pts in 38gp this season. 185pts in his career.

Mike McMahon ‏@MikeMcMahonCHN 3m
Greg Carey & Matt Carey are deciding among Western Conference teams. Possible, but not definite, they sign with the same team.

James Nelson ‏@PredatorialJN 6m
@MikeMcMahonCHN @chnews Any word on who is in the running? Nashville could use Greg, and typically tries hard for college FAs

Mike McMahon ‏@MikeMcMahonCHN 4m
@predatorialjn @chnews Nashville is not one of the teams I've heard brought up. All Northwest teams.

Anaheim likely involved, could potentially add him to their roster right away.

How many contract spots can we afford to devote to college free agents this season?

With Agostino signing and Gaudreau and Arnold contracts on the horizon, how long before we're at the 50 contract limit?
