Good. Flames seem to be treating this seriously, and that’s all I can ask for.

It’s a tough situation.

I'm not going to lie. I didn't like tre's response. He should have said something how the flames dont tolerate that behaviour if true...

I'm not picking a side immediately. But I won't ignore that Aliu has basically been a problem everywhere he's gone. Not that that would make it okay, I just wouldn't put it past him to make it up

I got that impression from the statement. Very clearly said that they take matters like that very seriously

Come on!

This whole thing came to light an hour ago. He had no prepared statement, he went out, addressed it. Do you think the Flames tolerate it or something?

My goodness.

Totally agree...the fact that he drops it while the Flames are playing seems calculated. Hope they can actually get to the bottom of it.

Was he a problem here? I cannot recall. I thought he was fine.

I think that can get you in a lot of trouble as anything but firing him means you think Akim is lying. I think his approach of I need to talk to Bill and the flames internally is a very reasonable response.

Honestly don't know that, he was here during the period where I didn't watch the NHL at all

Being a minority myself I can tell you that when people say racist things, it is not only humiliating but it hurts. And sometimes that hurt lingers years later; So when you hear Akim Aliu expressing his situation we need to consider that he is comparing the situation now because it has brought back potential deep feelings of humiliation and hurt. If true, this is why racism should never ever be tolerated, not in hockey, not in the workplace or anywhere else. I am with the group that says lets wait and see what happens, but lets not take what Akim Aliu say's lightly.

Yeah. It was a cup of coffee early rebuild. AHL call up. 11-12, 12-13

I've never heard of this guy. But if true, I'm sorry he had to endure this.

It is quite possible that Aliu's "reputation" was at least built in part because he spoke up against (alleged) crap like this and the hazing incident. Hockey doesn't like people bucking culture.

Pretty slippery slope we could be headed on if every hardass coach (major junior, AHL, NHL) of the last 20 years is called out on their motivational tactics/button pushing by some player who got their feelings hurt and/or felt it hurt their prospects in the league.
That's more talking about the Babcock thing, which Aliu refers to as the reason he decides to pipe up now.

If Peters dropped some racial slurs as bad choices of words than he should own up to it and shame on him. If he meant them in the context of being racist he should be let go, but uttering those words in context, or not in context, doesn't automatically mean he should be punted.

I just know he played juniors when I did, and even though he was in a different league, I still heard the stories. You don't go through that many billet families and get in that many fights with teammates if you're a good person.

Obviously, if his accusations against Peters are true, none of that even matters in the slightest. I'm just saying I wouldn't put it past the guy to be stirring the pot against a guy he didn't like.

Yeah the crucial thing is also how Peters reacts. Does he go Trudeau or Cherry?
