“After the first show this evening, I had a massive heart attack. The Doctor who saved my life told me I had 100% blockage of my LAD artery (aka ‘the Widow-Maker’),” he posted early Monday morning alongside a selfie taken in his hospital bed, where he’s surrounded by tubes and wearing a hospital gown instead of his signature hockey jersey. “If I hadn’t canceled show 2 to go to the hospital, I would’ve died tonight. But for now, I’m still above ground!”

He's an incredibly positive person and it would have sucked to lose him. The entertainment industry is a pretty jaded place and I've always found it refreshing to listen to him or read his Instagram posts. He gushes about the people who inspire him creatively and what it's like to work on dream projects.
Hope he has a speedy recovery and continues to do the work he loves.

That's awful, so glad he's okay! The world can't lose him, I hope this scare makes people realize how important he is, especially to the geek community. Before it was cool to be in superheros Kevin was the one guy in Hollywood waiving that geek flag for us. Plus he is one of the few directors who will shoot a movie in Canada and actually have the movie take place in ....Canada.
I've seen him the last two times he's been in Calgary and he was great both times. Seems to have a very dedicated fan base and the guy seems real. I could totally see him just walking into a comic shop and talking Batman with the clerks for hours, the guy is genuine. I was watching Comic Book Men yesterday and the showed him the movie "Shooting Clerks" the story about his life and how he got the movie Clerks made. Was a very real and touching moment seeing him breakdown while watching the film.

One of the most like-able and genuine people in the industry, when I met him many many years ago he was so down to earth, and had no hint of celebrity about him, just one of the truly great people in the business.

Something Smith doesn't get a lot of credit for is being a podcast pioneer. His podcasts were the first I'd ever heard and he was the first celebrity to attempt doing long form discussions outside of radio.

Clerks is still one of my all-time favorite comedies. I finally got to attend one of Smith's speaking engagements at Fan Expo Vancouver last year, and he was entertaining as hell. Very funny and genuine guy, and inspiring as well.
I'm glad hes okay, but that is a terrifying story.
I mean, think about the progression of the story:
"I'm kind of not feeling well, I should probably cancel the next show and go to the Hospital."
It sounds innocuous but that is a huge, huge decision.
Canceling a show isnt all sunshine and rainbows, its a massive pain for a large number of people, to just do that and go to the hospital?
Big call. Glad hes okay.
I'm not trying to hijack the thread, but its funny that you tripped upon something huge. I had a friend of mine that had a heart attack, it wasn't a major, but he turned white and started sweating and complaining that he didn't feel good. We were like time to go to the hospital, but he was insistant that it wasn't major, probably indigestion and if we could just let him sit down for a few minutes he'd be fine.
A lot of you don't like the Sun, but Lorrie Goldstein wrote the following story about going through a stroke.
The first indication I had — which I didn’t realize at the time — was that in discussing U.S. politics with a family member, I suddenly started to stumble over words and couldn’t remember Donald Trump’s name, or the names of the Republican and Democratic parties.
Sudden difficulties with speech and word recollection can be signs of a stroke.
I should have called 9-1-1 immediately and gone to hospital by ambulance.
For ischemic strokes there’s a window of up to 4.5 hours where a drug called tPA (tissue plasminogen activator) can be administered that breaks up the blood clot causing the stroke, reducing damage to the brain. But it has to be given quickly to be effective.
Strokes can also affect judgment.
Because I had no pain or paralysis, I stubbornly insisted I was just overtired.
Good for Smith for realizing that something was majorly wrong and not trying to brute force through it, which is something that a lot of people do. Mainly because most people either don't think its bad, or they know its bad and are frightened about how bad it is.

Chris Pratt after hearing about Smith's heart attack, sends Smith a positive message though he doesn't know him. Thanks him for inspiring him and says that he's going to pray for him, and gets jumped on by a bunch of online warriors, and somehow gets equated to politicians and the recents shootings.

Wow being attacked for praying for someone's well being. What the hell is this world coming to.

Because it takes away from what the doctors and science achieve and all their efforts and gives credit to an imaginary being.
Those are respectful statements and factually correct. It would have made sense for Pratt to praise modern medicine, the hospital and/or the doctors. To appeal to god is super dumb and people for nicely pointed that out.
I personally don't like the sentiment of somebody praying for me. It makes them feel good for "doing something" but does nothing whatsoever to help my situation. I don't like that somebody can smugly feel good for doing something when they did nothing.
