The series is a huge production employing hundreds of Albertans, says IATSE 212 President Damian Petti.
"The Last of Us which commences photography this week is indeed a monster," Petti said. "It has five art directors and employs an army of hundreds of technicians. It has had six months of prep and shoots (in Alberta) for 12 months."
Petti couldn't confirm the budget, rumoured to be in the hundreds of millions.
"I cannot confirm the official budget numbers but will say it is likely the largest project shooting in Canada," he said, in an email to CTV News.
That money is being spent in-province, providing Alberta small businesses with a boost coming out of the pandemic.

They messed up the Uncharted movie by not doing it 10 years ago and casting Nathan Filion.

Filming in Edmonton today. Apparently they picked Edmonton over Calgary because it required almost no expensive set decoration to look post apocalyptic since all the buildings look abandoned and decrepit already. Not to mention the abundance of extras already dressed in rags who smell like urine.

Was coming in to post something very similar to this. Super low hanging fruit.
Seeing as how it's Joel and Ellie together it can only be a loose adaptation of the first game.
Yeah I think it was confirmed as basically the first game sandbox. That said, discussion around the show/game is going to happen and the neckbeard trolls will be out in force. Can't hurt to avoid the spoilers.
I just want it to be good. I hold those games dear to my heart and it would suck to see the series fall flat. The fact that it's HBO after all and that Neil Druckmann is involved is assuring, but still ... please don't suck lol.

There is talk that they're putting more than $100 million in for the first season. Seems like they'll have all the resources that they want on it. Looking forward to it and probably just ignoring the inevitable trolls.
The 4th Avenue flyover is starting to look post-apocalyptic. Burned out and flipped cars, overgrown grass…
Great view of the filming for anybody living in the East Village condos facing north!
Is this just second unit stuff? All the instagram and twitter stuff seems to indicate the filming is done, the main director is done, and Pedro Pascal is back to filming The Mandalorian.
