Don't be so fast to write them off. World Cups are weird, especially when they are not played in Europe. Qatar will be a strange place, teams will have to deal with many things and a very tight schedule. The group stage is 3 games in 9 days.
Remember in 2014, Costa Rica made it to a penalty shootout in the quarters. They won the group with Uruguay, Italy and England!
Aside: The 2026 World Cup will be 16 groups of 3!
Not writing them off, of course anything can happen. But truly, for a team that hasn't been there for 36 years, getting there is the battle, and funds that the CSA will get (and waste) is huge, but the results in Qatar for Canadian supporters are gravy.
Yes, in that case in 2026 they should get through with only 2 group games and 2 teams go through. Canada will have a host pot so they will get at least one minnow and that win will put them through.
As an aside, they'll be some collusion in some groups for sure on that format, just like 1982, 1978 and other WC.

Rewatching some of the match. One thing that stands out to me is the sheer joy they have at each other's success. they're excited for each other, all playing for the crest on the jersey. Sure helps when you have on of the best players on the planet playing like he did last night too.
David has put in a serious shift in these three matches playing in a role that isn't his best, but with all the forward injuries he put on his boots and went to work.
They make being Canadian exciting!
Can't wait for Edmonton, hope all us prairie fans show up and it is as loud and boisterous as BMO looked last night. As for the conditions, I hope it is snowy and cold (but not too cold) Davies has played in some cold blizzards for Bayern (including last year) and looked pretty good in those conditions so if he's comfortable in it then that gap between him and everyone else only gets larger

These last few years of soccer in Canada have been absolutely amazing - Men's and Women's NT performing well and advancing up the FIFA rankings, the current drive to Qatar 2022, the Olympic gold, Cavalry FC becoming a great addition to this city and the growing impact of the CPL on soccer in this country... feels really damn good. Can't wait to see what the next couple years hold.
The CR match Friday night in Edmonton, on average is around -5.
While, the Costa Ricans have the best keeper in CONCACAF, cold weather will be foreign to Nevas and most of the team. Ball skip, slippery mitts hopefully all work in our favour.

I will say that, although they held it together for the most part last night, maaaan does our back line make me nervous. I think the book is out on them as well, as you could tell Panama was pressuring them hard as soon as they got the ball.

I wonder if we see back to back 50,000+ crowd in Edmonton.
Maybe Edmonton takes the crown away from BMO as the preferred destination of the NT.
I'm definitely going to the second game, no matter the temperature as well. I'm sneaking in my standard mickey of Fireball haha - my go-to drink while snowboarding. That #### will warm you right up. And I seem to be liking it more and more the older I get, haha.

I rewatched most of the game this morning, just to relive it. We complain about the reffing in CONCACAF but the ref yesterday was actually too good. To Canada's detriment! A crappier ref would have given Canada one of those penalties. Also a crappier linesman may have deemed that Davies didn't keep the ball in play.
