Had Hamilton stayed out on the old tires for the last laps, it could have turned into a similar situation to Lando in Sochi which would have been terrible for Hamilton and the team. I get his instinct but he over ruled his team a bunch of laps earlier which could have given him some more time to have competed after the graining on the tires…plus it was safer to get him on those tires in case of rain or even blowouts.

I always wonder if there is more communication that they don’t broadcast. I feel like there had to be more information given to Lewis about what other cars were experiencing and their lap times. From what we see, there appeared to be a lack of communication or detail provided to the driver. Like if they had said the guys behind him were gaining every lap and he will be passed before the end of the race and if he comes in now he might get the position back then that might have helped. I kind of feel like he needed to come in early to keep lap times as when he did switch those tires looked like slicks. If the course were drying out I could see staying with them, but it appeared not.

When a driver goes against the team how often is the driver actually right? I don't remember seeing it recently. If Hamilton pitted when they told him to he may be on the podium.

Updated standings:
Spoiler!

DFO with a solid week and taking top spot, 3 correct slots and 8/10.

Woob and 3thirty were second with 2 correct slots. (3thirty carryover picks, first one of the year).

TimSJ it was your first carryover picks as well.

Definitely not the most entertaining race of the year. It's too bad the track didnt dry out as that would've made it alot more interesting on when to go slicks. Vettel tried and he was Bambi on ice, much the same as Norris in Russia.

@RedSlinger...I've always heard that when the track is changing it depends which way it's going. If the track is getting wetter than the team should typically override a driver (getting wet in certain sections, what is coming for rain, what other teams are doing, etc.). If the track is drying out, then the driver should override the team as only they'd know what the actual grip feels like.

Of course doing that all in the heat of battle, a championship fight, and on a track that is VERY different from the previous year is very hard to get right.

Tons. And what we do get is time delayed. But if you have F1TV you can listen to all team radio. There’s constant chatter.

Anyone know if any pubs in Calgary will be playing the race this Sunday?

Not sure how likely it would be with football going on at the same time.
