I'd much rather have Michael Stone at 3.5M over the next two years than Kris Russell.
Am I doing this right?

Apples and oranges obviously

Let me know what Nurse signs for as a UFA guy

One was an RFA, the other was signed as a UFA.

You're not going to get a 1st round-drafted RFA defenseman without spending significant assets. Re-signing Stone cost only a 5th.

Any GM would rather have the Nurse contract. The question is whether they would be willing to part with two 1sts and another asset to pry Nurse away from the Oilers.

Wow. They're going to have less than $1M in Cap space once Sekera's contract hits LTIR. They basically have to shut him down for the season.

Hmm. Makes me doubt that Treliving is one of those half the league GMs that would trade rosters. Treliving does not like overpaying for anything.

What are the odds someone like, uh, Luci ends up on the LTIR list around Jan or Feb to miraculously give them room?

Not correct. Sekera's contract is being counted as part of their cap hit on CapFriendly. The problem they will have is if Pulujarvi gets a majority of his ELC bonuses. Some of that might have to go towards their cap next season.

Right, and it shows that they have $778,834.

Less than $1M in cap space after Sekera's contract is on LTIR.

Stone on the Oilers would be better than Nurse on the Flames.

On any other team Nurse is a middle pairing defenseman so the money is ok.

On the Oilers he's a top pairing defenseman so its a good deal.

But god forbid anyone on the Oilers gets hurt this year.

Plus a blueline with

Klefbom Larsson
Nurse Benning
Jerabek Russell

Wow

I don’t know. They think their D is pretty solid.

So this leaves you with 3 true top 4 guys (Larsson, Klefbom, Nurse), 1 guy that can pull spot duty there, but is ideally on the 3rd pairing (Russell); 3 or 4 3rd pairing guys (Benning, Gravel, Jarabek, Garrison), and 3/4 pospects knocking at the door (Bear, Jones, Bouchard, and Lagesson).

If healthy we have 5 top 4 Dmen on the squad. I would still welcome Faulk here.

Really? Stone plays solid in 2 years you make a call to sign or let him walk.

Nurse plays solid you have a long term player looking to make up the money he parted with 2 years earlier. With little choice as he is your young dman. It has making of Dion on the Leafs redux.

But sure since we hate Stone lets ignore that.

Klefbom played like a 5th defenseman last year, he went back to being Captain Bumblepuss after having his career year a couple of years ago.

Larsson was not good last year either and he while being a decent shut down guy has no offense to his game at all.

They literally have nothing there, Bear and Jones are underwhelming when I watched AHL games last year , and if they rush Bouchard and his ankle skating they'll wreck him Ralph.

I think Billy and the Boingers said it best

For that to happen it would mean you would have drafted nurse over Monahan so you could have given him that 3.2 bridge. Still want him over stone?
