So I saw on the Heat's Instagram post about the game result that at least one fan calls Mangiapane "Yeastmode", and that cracks me up more than it probably should.
It's a pretty clever play on "Beastmode" and "Eat Bread".
The Following 13 Users Say Thank You to AC For This Useful Post:
Love that he is developing, let him continue like Detroit does. Janko, Gillies, Kulak as well we are taking time to let them develop and not rush anything.
This thread is an example of why I believe we should merge The Back Burner with Fire on Ice.
I went to the BackBurner forum for the first time in years because of this post and the latest is some guy saying he would eat sureloss' butthole if he could and the subsequent reactions.
I think we should leave the BackBurner forum right where it is.
People need to stop saying this. The "Detroit model" is a myth.
What's the myth? That you can develop players this way or you must develop players this way?
No doubt there's kids that do just fine without an AHL career, but proving they're harmed by an AHL is going to be hard work. What's not hard work is showing the AHL is an easier league to succeed in, a cheaper league to fail in, and a place to play solid minutes when you're not good enough to displace someone in the NHL.

No. The myth here is that this is something that the Red Wings continue to do; also it is highly dubious that they have been especially effective with those prospects they have "over-ripened."
Certainly, there is value in keeping some players longer than others in the AHL to learn and grow the game, but this is not something the Red Wings invented, nor is their handling of prospects all that different from virtually every other NHL team.

They may not have "invented" it obviously but they are a team that has had great success letting players develop at the AHL level. Mainly because they were such a deep team from 93-2013

But what they have been doing for at least the past half-decade is not any different from what almost every other NHL team is doing with their own prospects. "Similar to Detroit" in this respect is now the same thing as "similar to every other team except the Edmonton Oilers."

Mangiapane is the type of player that has managed to "punch above his weight class" both in the OHL and the AHL so far. I would bet he will eventually do the same in the NHL!
