Correct me if I am wrong, but that means that the Flames should have a little over 15M in cap space by the off season.

15 million with Bennett, Tkatchuk, Hathaway, Lomberg, Mangiapane Pout Rittich and Smith looking for contracts.

So, Lomberg, Pout and probably Smith are done here at the end of the year.

Not a lot really. I'm guessing 6M at least for goaltending one way or another. Even if Tkachuck get done in the 7 range, which is optimistic, that only leave a couple of million for the rest. I'm guessing Stone and/or Frolik have to go.

At least Bouma and Murphy come off the books next year but Brouwer will hurt for awhile yet.

There’s a chance Stone might have to retire if his blood clots are serious (knock on wood).

I have to think Lomberg comes back. Hes a solid call up if we need a 4th line energy guy. Much rather him than someone like Peluso as Lomberg can play and skates well.

Prout is probably gone and I'm 50/50 on Smith. If he pulls it together here we can run a 1a/1b with Rittich/Smith. Depends on both Smith and Gillies. Gilles looks pretty disappointing so far though. The big thing is I think Smith would sign a 1 year deal, which isnt a big deal if he doesnt work out next year. Where as an any UFA option is probably a multi year deal.

13-8-2

Forwards - 52.703333

Gaudreau (6.75) - Monahan (6.375) - Lindholm (4.85)
Tkachuk (8*7.75) - Backlund (5.35) - Bennett (6*3.5)
Mangiapane (2*1.25) - Ryan (3.125) - Neal (5.75)
Dube (0.778333) - Jankowski (1.675) - Frolik (4.3)
Czarnik (1.25)

Defencemen - 26.088375

Giordano (6.75) - Brodie (4.6504)
Hanifin (4.95) - Hamonic (3.857143)
Valimaki (0.894166) - Andersson (0.755833)
Kylington (0.730833) - Stone (3.50)

Goalie - 8

Rittich (2*2)
Varlamov (6*6)

Buyouts and Bonuses - 1.5-2.21

Brouwer buyout - 1.5
Max Valimaki Bonus - 0.425
Max Andersson Bonus - 0.0825
Max Mangiapane Bonus - 0.07
Max Kylington Bonus - 0.132500

The roster above costs 89.001708. When I look at this roster, the primary options to free up cap space seem to be:
-Move Stone
-Move Frolik
-Sign a cheaper goaltender

This means I'm interested in see how the current goaltenders play for the remainder of 2018-2019. Will the Flames need to sign an expensive goalie in free agency or will an option present itself from within? This also means I want to see Rittich play quite a bit.

Bennett might sign for $3.5M, but it won’t be close to 6 years.

Why not? If Nashville can get Calle Jarnkrok signed for 6*2.0, then the Flames can sign Sam Bennett for 6*3.5. Before signing his most recent contract, Calle Jarnkrok scored 0.34 points/game. Sam Bennett is currently at 0.37.

I actually really like Lomberg - little sparkplug that just blasts energy. However, Peluso is better at the job that is required, and IMO, is actually a better hockey player. I thought Peluso has played fairly well in his limited appearances - forechecks well, decent defensively, cycles well - every game he is in it seems that the 4th line has moments of hemming in the opposition.

If Rittich plays at his current level ( #1 on a playoff team) he will get a lot more than a 2x2 out of arbitration.

Unless Bennett really ups hisnoffensive game over the next 50 he is going to have to give up some UFA years if he wants $3.5M. I think a 5 year deal at that price should work for both sides. Maybe 4M x 6 years is the right number?

Tkachuk should be an 8 year deal for the Flames but Treliving will likely go 6 years to bring down the cap hit

On pretty much just one year of NHL play? I doubt it. John Gibson made $2.3 on his second contract after a good year in tandem with Andersen that saw his team make the POs and make Andersen expendable (and where he was more obviously the goalie of the future).

Rittich is probably looking at $1.25M for a few years

Varlamov will get around $7M from the Flames
