Dec 3 Practice Notes - Czarnik and Prout draw in. Goalie TBD
Aaron Portzline
@Aportzline
Hallway outside #Flames dressing room is abuzz. This is Calgary’s fathers’ trip, Chicago and Columbus.
Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson
Based on practice twirls today, looks like #Flames winger Austin Czarnik might replace Ryan Lomberg on fourth line against Blue Jackets.

Makes sense. A little more speed/skill against Columbus.
Jankowski & Hathaway looked good when paired with a more dynamic player. Mangiapane isn't likely to start there, so this is a better fit.

A little nervous about how he has Prout written in there

Man. Having a son in the NHL. Those dads must be beaming with pride.

Getting Prout in against his former team and coach who benched him quite a bit makes sense. Bottom pair did not look it’s best last game, so good time for a shake up

I said this in the GT but I thought Kylington has looked pretty bad the last few games and horrendous last night. Would rather see Prout play over him.

Hopefully Mangiapane-Ryan-Neal continue to find chemistry next game and score a goal. How awesome would it be if they can start providing some consistent scoring for the team!

The Flames have already played nine defensemen through the first 27 games. Thank god for the depth that they have had heading into this season.

I initially read those D pairs as Kylington-Prout which made little sense to me. Sitting Kylington though, that I can understand a bit more.

For the love of God, put Janks on the third line with Mangi and Neal.

Um...No. Have you been watching Ryan? The guy has been an excellent 3C. Leave him alone.

Like these line up adjustments. I hope this game against Columbus is just a chance for Kyllington to get a view from up top and he gets back in in the next game. I have really liked his play outside of the game last night.
Also like to hear that Rittich is getting back in. I want both goalies going and this is the perfect way to show that these guys are going to share the net. Not just a win and you’re in.
I think that the flames play a more defensively-sound game in front of rittich for some reason. It might be a lack of faith in smith as players seem to forecheck more aggressively and lose position... leading to odd-man rushes and high-danger scoring chances on Smith. Almost like the players are nervous when the other team has the puck when smith is in net. But I also think that is going to get better as smith has started getting wins and is playing better.

Man has Peters ever grown on me. Maybe I’m reading too much into this but it sure looks like he’s doing his best to make sure every dad gets to see their boy play. What a class act.

273 defensemen have suited up for NHL teams this year, an average of 8.8 per team. So while I agree I am very pleased with our defensive depth, I'm not quite at the thank god stage. Especally since the churn has been at the bottom which is going to be a good thing in the long run.

Love the goalie schedule so far. Rittich has rested the last 2 games, and we're headed to choppier waters.
Smith has passed his test with flying colours, and is looking like a "worst case" very good option at 1B. Now to see if Rittich can continue to build on his claim to 1A.

He's also 31 with minimal upside. He's been good as opposed to terrible (at the start of the year), he hasn't been excellent.
Meanwhile we are pulling another Sam Bennett with Jankowski, being buried with scrubs on the 4th line after greatly improving his play from the start of the year.
