Seem to be pretty good. But I'm no expert.
Bingo or others could probably interpret it better than I.

I still hold the San Jose game as the only game where the Flames were so off that they deserved to lose since the Pittsburgh debacle.
They've had flat games (Dallas), and sloppy games (Chicago), but the only game where they looked inferior to the opposition was the SJ game and even with that they made a push and almost tied it.

If you have high shot attempts you get way to the right on the graph.
If you don't give up much you move to the top of the graph.
Teams that are therefore in the right top quadrant are the better teams.
This doesn't take into account the quality of shot attempts however.

Update
As the season goes by the big 5 continue to take up more space on the advanced stat leaderboard. Two others that don't go away ... Hamonic and Bennett. Derek Ryan poster boy for not giving much up. Jankowski's name looking less off putting.

For that, I apologize.

All good man. But appreciate it.
I'm not that hung up on corsi honestly, the more I look at things the more I see how it can be gamed. I also think the assumption of gaming the stats is way over done.
Take the best differential teams right now in the "good" category.
Eight teams in that quadrant.
Calgary, SJ and Vegas
Boston, Montreal, Tampa
Carolina
Nashville
None of those are crap teams.
Teams like Toronto, Pittsburgh, Colorado and Winnipeg create enough, but give up too much going the other way.
Sort of fits the eye test doesn't it?

Somewhat. Mostly, even.
But for me, good teams are probably going to end up with good possession stats. That is different than saying good possession stats probably means good team.
Nonetheless, all information is useful. And the effort you put into bringing all kinds of stats to the table is awesome and greatly appreciated.
I jump into these conversations a lot because the information is good - the bar has been raised. Those the are the conversations I want to join, even if my personal view is dissenting.

Pretty amazing to see Backlund with a negative differential in HDCF, considering he is among the league leaders in +/-. He's doing something right somewhere.
Also, Bennett's ubiquity on the the CF side is hard to ignore

I honestly don’t see how there’s a difference. That’s like saying you win when you play well but you play well when you win.
Some teams won despite having some iffy numbers. Often they slide later (I had buffalo and Anaheim not long for the tip back in November)
Other teams have numbers that suggest its sustainable.

I at one time did not believe that playing for possession stats was a thing.
Here is an example where playing for possession stats is no good.

"Here’s the thing with analytics, with media and with fans I don’t understand. There’s such a divide. You’re either for analytics or you’re against them. Analytics to me are no more than stats. If you’re for goals and assists and points, then why wouldn’t you be looking at these other stats too. I was a big fan of Tyler’s and I pushed hard for the hire. I like going in-depth and checking everything off. If you’re going to stand back and say "It takes 95 points to make the playoffs," can’t you say that "Hey if you get a Corsi of 50 per cent, 70 per cent of those teams make the playoffs? Or if you get a team Corsi of 52.5 per cent, hey, 90 per cent of those teams makes the playoffs. The problem with just looking at going "Hey get 95 points and you’re in, it’s hard to go back and measure "What do you need?" When you get into the team Corsi, and this is where things worked really well with Tyler, is you’re actually able to go in and check off every part of your system work. Compare it to other teams that are tops in certain categories, see what they’re doing, see if you need to adjust it. Where is your personnel at? What are the challenges? It just adds another layer of putting together a system and a team."

But like Tyler Dellow for me is one of these guys that is a great asset to a staff. And he was a big part of our team moving forward in a spot where we were suffering. I think last year we were at like 44% Corsi, which is just terrible as a team. And we were able to push that to right around 51 by the time I was fired. And that number of 51, over the long term, will eventually pay some dividends
