Thanks for these write-ups. I agree on Dube and I though Rasmus was incredible.
I don’t know about calling the Avs series a smoke show. But then again hockey players aren’t really my thing.

On the eye test Talbot stole the game or came pretty close to doing so.
Interesting how good the team looked when Talbot makes 5-6 incredible saves.
I would like to see what the stats are counting on as High danger chances.

Helle made just as many high quality saves as Talbot. The Flames were just the better team.

To me, it looks like Sam Bennett finally found a home - so I will say this is a turning point. At no point while under Peters or Gulutzan did Bennett get a 4 game runway like this. He saw this opportunity, pushed it and took flight and the coach provided him stability for 4 straight. He wasn’t shifted around the line-up, up or down. Effective #3 centre going forward? That sounds pretty nice.
Props to Ward.

Calgary led the high danger chances 13-4 five on five, and 13-7 overall.
And that matches my eye test to be honest.
Calgary had a 67% xGF% split in the game last night. Outplayed a depleted team.

You have a point on the four game runway.
I've always thought his biggest issue was his brain getting in the way ... playing almost panicky trying to make something happen with a limited window.
I'd hope this is a changing point ... fingers crossed ... because he looked like OHL Bennett last night.

It's startling to look at the playoff scoring leaders and see all these Flames, including Lucic, Mangiapane and Bennett in the top 25. I guess that's what happens when you win a series. Sweet.

It is posts like these that make me question whether you and I are even watching the same thing. So weird.

Talbot looked great but hardly stole the game. Although, interestingly, he did out perform Hellebuyck, who looked totally average in every way. The only chance the Jets had at this play-in series was if he stole a couple games.

Non-passive-aggressive translation: Talbot was better than Hellebuyck, but only because Hellebuyck played very average-at-best. Therefore, Talbot was only slightly above average and should receive no credit beyond that. Also, because of injuries, the only realistic chance we had at winning anyway was if Hallebuyck played better than he did. None of this matters though, since this was only a play-in series and not an actual playoff series.

Actually I agree with Whiteout here. The one area the Jets had a decided advantage coming in was in net, and it didn’t play out that way. They needed Hellebuyck to steal a game and he didn’t.

Wow this is a really obnoxious post. So, if I did say that Talbot was lights out, like Ricardo, I could expect to be called a homer because the Flames needed him to steal the series?
What? Give your head a shake. I literally said Talbot was great, and you're now saying that I was actually suggesting he was just above average.
edit: This reply is a lot sloppier than I wanted it to read on 2nd reading, but, I have no idea how to respond to such a bizarre attack where I'm praising your goaltender.

If there is only a way to solve this argument by looking at who actually had the tougher mix of shots among the goalies....
Overall:
Talbot: .945 (104 /110)
Hellebuyck: .904 (113/125)
High Danger:
Talbot: .706 (12/17)
Hellebuyck: .682 (15/22)
Medium Danger:
Talbot: .970 (32/33)
Hellebuyck: .872 (34/39)
Low Danger:
Talbot: 1.00 (55/55)
Hellebuyck: 1.00 (58/58)
So biggest difference is Hellebuyck let in more medium danger shots, and really Talbot was really locked in letting only one medium or low danger shot beat him.
One thing that I thing is probably true though is Flames did a better job of getting traffic for those medium danger shots. No real way to calculate that but one way is rebound chances (more rebound chances likely means more people in front).
Talbot - 4 Rebound Attempts Against
Hellebuyck - 11 Rebound Attempts against
So looks like Flames did a much better job of clearing out the Jets forwards / Talbot did a better job of managing his rebounds.
