Our ancestors lived through ice ages, severe climate change would likely kill billions of humans but there will always be pockets who adapt and survive. My hope is that we figure out a way to colonize another world before everything comes crashing down on Earth

^^for a (late) Sunday night TV show about science and the comos, I'd say its pretty darned solid.
An hour earilier, The Simpsons only got 2.49 Million viewers (Family Guy got 2.75).
Lord knows it's a good show though....I've downloaded an re-watched all of the episodes this week. Terrific stuff.

The combined last 10 minutes between Sagan and Tyson, was really powerful
Great way to end the series, the blend of the two presenters

Has it been confirmed that there will be no season 2? I know Tyson is done as host, but I thought I heard they may do a new season with a different host.
Edit: Here's the article - http://www.theepochtimes.com/n3/7228...d-or-canceled/

I don't know if it was ever intended to be more than one season. It probably took them a couple of years to write and produce this season.
If there was ever another host, I think it would have to be Bill Nye?

I like Bill Nye, but I am not sure he has the right gravitas for the topic. I should add that I thought his "Bill Nye the Science Guy" series was great, and that seems to be more his style.
For a host, maybe a slightly toned-down David Pogue? I am sure there are others in the science community who would do well.

I find Bill Nye has become a little snippy in his old age. He might rub people the wrong way. What about Brian Greene?
He's got a pretty friendly style on the NOVA programs I've seen him on.

Seth says he won't do s2 without her, so that makes me at this point anyhow doubtful of a second season.
Not sure if I'm upset by that though, they did an amazing job this series and what can they really cover that wasn't touched upon in s1?

Truly an amazing series and I'm both sad and filled with joy after seeing the whole thing. Neils final words were poignant and worthy of being a successor to Carl. The end with the empty chair was a nice touch. But my favourite part, by far, was Carl Sagan reciting the pale blue dot ...speach? Dont know what to even consider it. Everytime I read it I feel so ... inflated with hope and wonder for both how small we are yet how lucky we are to be a part of something so immense and so beautiful. Hearing Carl say it is even more profound. I miss Carl like a uncle or second father, and haven't even met him. What a beautiful man he was, intelligent, articulate, and such hope he had for us as a species. The cosmos sequel was every bit the show I was hoping for and even more. Time to show it to our children and kids in schools, and in couple decades revisit the series again and see what new wonders we can touch on. and maybe find out who the new "ambassador of science" is at that point; cuz right now it's Neil. And he's a great person for that role.

I think they should have ended it with Carl and the pale blue dot. It totally drew you in, you were totally immersed in what he was saying, and then I felt Neil coming back in was a little jarring.

This series should be required viewing for high school science classes. I know watching something like this would have drawn me into science far more than reading stuff from a text book

The girlfriend and I have been PVRing every episode and watching with great satisfaction. I picked it up on Blu Ray a couple of days ago and am looking forward to doing it all again (just under 40 bucks at Costco, for those who are interested).
The world needs more shows like this.

I was visiting a friend of mine in Toronto over the weekend who is a high school physic teacher. She IS making the show required watching for her class. The school has already ordered the DVDs and it will be her job to watch each episode and create a worksheet for the students to fill in as they watch. She is going to recommend that the students watch each episode twice... the first time just watch and take it all in, try to fill in the worksheet, then watch the episode over again and listen for the answers that you missed the first time through.
She said "I'll be getting paid to watch Cosmos. I love my job."
The DVDs will be available for the students to sign out and watch at home and will be available to watch in the school library.
