That's your first line, second and third line pairs and your fourth line folks. Dube (unless there's a HC issue) is the other wing plus one of Milano, Ruzicka, Phillips, and probably Ritchie is 13th man unless Eakin or Klapka do really well.

Kadri in the middle? So Lindholm down low? I would reverse them, personally.

Though I have not coached 2.99 Stanley Cup winners, so...

Yeah, that was my thought as well. No surprises up front, with the Mangiapane-Kadri and Backlund-Coleman pairings. Just insert Dube and the other spot-winner accordingly. But I thought the D pairs were interesting (and how I was hoping to see them:

Hanifin - Andersson
Zadorov - Weegar
(Kylington) - Tanev

but it is very early of course, lots can and will change

I think they rotating Kadri and Backlund on that line because Kadri isn't playing tomorrow. Same with the pairings, Tanev won't play so they are giving him reps with the rookie.

The PP unit is interesting really thought they would give Weegar a shot on the first pp unit and Mangiapane.

IMO, we have enough talent to have 2 good units this year (I know you want to load up the 1st unit, but I think we can do that and still have a great 2nd unit:

Mangiapane
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Toffoli
Andersson/Weegar

2nd:
Backlund
Kadri
Weegar/Andersson

down the middle, with 2 of Milano/Phillips/Dube/Coleman on the wings, depending on who makes the team.

I am just wondering if we can take minutes away from Backlund on the PP and keep him fresh for tougher assignments, with the addition of Kadri, maybe Milano and Mangiapane in a elevated role maybe that gives us that option?

I think Kadri had a really good year on the powerplay with Colorado playing on the top unit.

I think for the first time in a while you have 4 (5 if stone is in the lineup) dmen that can play pp, and it might be worthwhile going 2 d on each pairing

Huberdeau Lindholm Mangi/Toffoli/Kadri
Hanifin Andersson

2 of Mangi/Toffoli/Kadri, Milano/Dube
Weegar Kylington/Stone

Just an option, you can do 2 or 3 d in total with guys like Coleman, Backlund, looch etc out there too

I don't think that 2 dmen is a option anymore except for the 2nd unit. The league is pretty much all a version of a 1-3-1 formation.

That doesn’t mean a dman can’t play in that formation? They just take one of the outside spots of the middle 3. I wouldn’t mind seeing Andersson in one of those positions with Hanifin as the quarterback as Andersson has a great one timer

I'd agree.

Ideally the outside players in the "3" of the 1-3-1 should have a one timer, be able to handle the puck in traffic, and ideally have some speed in case there's a turnover.

Doesn't have to be a forward or a defenseman specifically.

If it was up to me I would roll with the following:

PP1

Kadri
Toffoli-Lindholm-Huberdeau
Andersson

PP2

Milano-Dube-Mangiapane
Weegar-Kylington

Can swap Mangiapane on PP1 in place of Toffoli if things get stale.

Am I the only one that would rather see these top two lines?

Huberdeau Lindholm Mangiapane
Dube Kadri Toffoli

As for the PP, I'd rather have Kadri taking draws on the 2nd unit, leaving Backlund to focus on PK. After a pile of years with Backlund as the 2PP C, I think it's time for a change there.

If Phillips makes the team, I think he could have a similar impact on a PP unit as Versteeg did back in 16-17. Both primarily play the right flank on the PP.

If Phillips makes the team, I think there's a good chance he's on PP2

Yup, that probably makes sense. Certainly doesn't make PP1.

I’ve been a harsh critic but damn would it be sweet if Phillips did in fact make the team.

I’m also pumped to hear Zary is looking good too.
