I'm actually confident Treliving will get this done before the season starts. Sounds like they are still grinding it out.

Negotiating during the season is bad vibes.I get why players just want to focus on their game and not their contract.

Better lock this boy up in the next 12 days bc if the team is doing well you know we're not going to deal him at the deadline

Not surprising this would be announced at all. I would say they better get this hammered out before the end of next week, or this is looking like a one and done season for a player that will be extremely sought after as a UFA.

His price tag is only going to go up from whatever is agreed upon now and unless the Weegar camp is completely off the rails in what they are asking it should still get done considering both parties have expressed the interest. Even if the number is a little high, you've got to lock this down as it is such a critical gain for a team that has kicked its window back open for the next 3 years or so.

Some people don't venture into mega threads like that because it's mostly arguing. I like something like this getting it's own thread, not like there's a limit to them

Justify it's own thread since Huberdeau signed with just Weegar left

that other thread was way too long and way too much drama between posters

It's a smart move by his camp to get this out there a few weeks before the season, given that Calgary has recently been burned by an upcoming UFA and will surely want to avoid going through this again ... so they're trying to put some pressure on Tre to up the offer and get this done in time, I guess.

personally I'm not worried at all. This will get done.

You cannot afford a repeat of the mistake the Flames made last season with pending UFAs who walk (unless you are prepared for that price, which is zero return but in exchange the availability of cap space).

If Mackenzie doesn't want to negotiate during season but wants to stay in Calgary that's fine, sounds like he has about 10 days to make up his mind then. If not, you trade at the deadline. Regardless of playoff position. Time to get ruthless with assets.

I also think you make it abundantly clear, if you're the Flames, that this is your position. "We either negotiate during season, or you agree now, or if no to both previous requests, you risk being traded at deadline".

Remains to be seen if having Johnny walk was a mistake.

Let’s hope we can do a quick reno on the dressing room in the next two weeks to be able to seal the deal.

I like to keep it.....more chance of bumping that Gaudreau signing thread that has turned into a cesspool off the front page.

Absolutely not. Ridiculous take.

Unless the Flames aren't looking competitive. And then it's an entirely different situation, and trade away.

Was always a mistake if you think the alternative was not letting him play to UFA.

Like we have to trade Weegar asap if he doesn't sign. By the TDL we'll be too committed.

Either way, Johnny leaving was not the Flames choice so couldn't ever call it a mistake or a good decision. Their choice was to offer him 8x10.5.
