Toffoli did looked gassed during some shifts last year. I think, like others, his conditioning wasn't peak. That being said; he was exceptional at on ice positioning; finding the open spots but was never really dished too much in terms of passing when he was wide open. Call that synergy or chemistry; it wasn't all there.
I think making a Tcachuk comparison here on foot speed as well, there was many times he was behind the play. However, very successful at driving the net; deflections but that line clearly had chemistry and was a passing strong line.
The great thing is, it's almost go time and we'll get to see this unfold.
The guy's career high is 58 points. If he doesn't come close to that playing with Lindholm and Huberdeau safe to say the trade will be looked on as a disappointment. I'm expecting guys like him and Coleman will be better in year two so he should eclipse 50 points and come close to 30 goals if he can stick with the first line.

I just found this clip of Don Cherry talking about how 10 year old Toffoli & his dad stopped him in the street and told him he was going to play in the NHL.
So far, many people have had concerns about the lack of chemistry on the top line and how the play dies on Toffoli's stick or he is never in the right position for Huberdeau's advanced passes. I hope they start to click because he hasn't looked that great so far except for on the PP where he positioned himself behind the net.
I was hoping that he would have a bit more spring in his step but hasn't been the case so far. It's possible he could be another one of those poor skaters that declines early and the Habs sold at the right time.

I'll start to worry about him if he continues to look lethargic and missing open chances after 5 regular season games. I think it'll take some time to get used to playing on that line, I just hope he can keep up and get motivated. If not, then we try something else up there with Lindholm and Huby.

I just think he repeatedly makes the same poor choices. I don’t think he makes it past 15 games on the top line. I’d be really happy to be wrong though.
