As far as his views on our city - there are still the rumors of him spending time here in Calgary in the summers as well for training or other reasons - I've seen those both here on CP and also from a Canucks fan saying his Calgary friend sees Huberdeau in town every summer.

Calgary roads are a lot better than roads in a lot of US cities, especially cities in the rustbelt.

They also don't have snow and black ice.

I haven't been reading every page of every thread. Where are these rumours? I'm sure he's blindsided by being traded as I'm sure he never saw that coming.

It would be great if we could get huberdeau, weeger, and mangiapane done for what we were going to pay tkachuk and gaudreau. So about $21 million. Both weeger and huberdeau won’t have the contracts kick in until next season when Lucic and Monahan contracts come off the books. The two ex Florida players will be cheaper this season. If the cap goes up, these commitments become smaller percentage wise.
I really hope that Treliving has learned a lesson about going right to the wire with players; there is always the possibility that the player says no.
If huberdeau and weeger don’t want to sign, they are both relatively cheap for the upcoming season and should be moved as soon as possible. I’d hate to see that happen, but it wouldn’t be the worst thing ever.

If they sign it will be before the start of the season otherwise they are gone, one way or the other
Huberdeau has every incentive to sign off a career year.
Nothing to gain risking on a season with a new team. Unless he doesn’t want to be in Calgary.
I don’t care about Weegar that much. Nice if he signs, if not trade him to someone that want to overpay.

Monahan at the 2014 World Championships
Brett Ritchie on the 2013 U20 team is the only other connection I see.

A bit of a shock at being traded, which isn't uncommon. But it's more to do with Florida's actions.

I think both will sign this summer. Id do 6x6 for Weeger for sure.
Huberdeau is tougher to gauge but i have to think hes going to want to sign an extension this offseason, coming off a 115 point campaign. 6x10?

If the Flames were ready to give Johnny 8 x $10.5 I'm sure they will offer it to Huberdeau. Question is does he want be in Calgary long term?

I think this could be tricky. Calgary needs Huberdeau to feel wanted, but I think they want to push for a lower AAV. Johnny's 8-year would have started immediately, but Huberdeau's wouldn't until a year later, so that would be one more year when he's really old. Johnny's performance will likely also age quite well because he doesn't play physical at all, less wear and tear on the body.

I will be shocked if Huberdeau signs an extension. I hope he does, but I am not holding my breath.

But only 300 NHL games and two seasons over 20 points. He's incredible, I think he's gonna rock the world here, but I also think there's a chance you can get him at a bargain. Sorta like how the Flames got Giordano at 6.75 at a similar point in his career.

When are players who are still under contract allowed to sign extensions?

If they're on one-year deals: after January 1 in the season their contract covers.
If they're on multi-year deals: on the day unrestricted free agency opens to kick off the final season of their contract.
Huberdeau and Weegar have been eligible to extend since July 13.

They were ready to give Johnny 8 x 10.5 because if he didn’t take it he was walking out the door, not being turned into assets.
I think Huberdeau should be getting just what Tkachuk and Gaudreau received.
At least he’ll only have to negotiate with Tre once.

In Tre's one-on-one with Steinberg, he mentioned that he spoke to both agents when working through the trade.
My bet would be that he didn't get into detailed discussions about the contracts, but asked both agents if the players would be open to signing in Calgary long term.

But did the agents go further with the players. Did Huberdeau get word of the trade before or after it went down. If it was before, did Treliving acquire him anyway if Huberdeau didn’t give a 100% he’d be open to a long term deal in Calgary? Or did Huberdeau not get brought in on the discussion and the deal was made on hope?

Both should be a piece of cake. I don't anticipate any hold-ups to either signing.

I'm not sure but I think you do the deal either way
I just read an article from New Jersey calling it an "unbeatable deal"
Basically "I ain't even mad" when they saw what was given up

I gotta believe the agents would have to speak to their clients regularly at a time like this — especially if they want to keep them as clients! Even if Huby was shocked at the time, talking to the agent probably gave Tre a bit of an emotional filter to get a lay of the land re: extensions. Hopefully they can come to terms with both!
