Surprised Mangiapane isn't on the list. If the Flames manage to sign Gaudeau I don't see how they can keep both Tkachuk and Mangiapane.

I think you are right. We still have a full season of Toffoli, so in a way, the deadline deal this season counts as a 2022-23 off season acquisition strictly going from a players-in-players-out perspective from the beginning of last season.
I do have some concerns about what happens with Mangiapane though. If the Flames are successful in extending both Gaudreau and Tkachuk, it might be difficult to find the cap room for him. It depends on what happens with Lucic and Monahan, but I wouldn't count on either of them being moved or retiring.

I like Mangiapane, but won't be sad if trading him is the cost to keep Tkachuk and Johnny. Spend on top line players, not middle 6 guys.

Absolutely, and keep plugging the young kids into the line up. Tofolli plugs into his spot on the second like with Backlund and Coleman, Pelletier moves into the line up.

I would try to move Toffoli or Coleman before Mangiapane

Don't see Tre moving two players he just signed and traded for in the past year. Wouldn't look good to any future UFA.
I like Mange at the right price. You can't give him 40 goal scorer money after one, possibly never to be repeated, year.

I'd sell high on Mangiapane before trading Coleman. I feel like Mangiapane is a 25 goal guy who played on a good team during a contract year. I hope I'm wrong, but his streakiness was really frustrating this year, the question is whether that was his fault or changes to his line.

Yup, I consider Mangiapane a 25 goal 40-45 point forward. Don’t overpay for those.

To be clear, and for the record, I do not want Mangiapane moved. I don't think he's just a flash in the pan and I think his gritty style will make him successful with the skill he also has. But my point earlier was if he must be sacrificed in order to keep Tkachuk and Johnny, I do that without hesitation because those two are true 1st liners. That doesn't mean though that I think he's necessarily streaky or that the Flames need to sell high this year on him (which assumes last year was his ceiling), because I think he has more to give.

Scoring Winger

I would try and target Necas in a Mangiapane trade if it came to that.
Could be lindholm v.2.0
Necas wants to play centre. Looks like the canes are looking for a goal scoring winger not a play making centre.
Rfa for rfa both in contract years.
Would slot nicely with our group of centers

I don't find Mange to be all that gritty. He doesn't actually shy away from it but seems to be on the receiving end more than the giving.

I think they both wear number 88 too haha, that would be a pretty cool trade no doubt I really hope eat bread can stay but if he had to go Necas would be an ideal piece coming back.

I can’t imagine any scenario where someone gives up draft picks for Monny.
He’s got huge negative value until he proves himself healthy and productive.
Lucic is anyone’s guess, but there is no apparent reason why he should be expected to retire. He looks like he’s enjoying himself.

I dont think Carolina will give up on Necas yet, and certainly not to us while lindholm is still shoved in their face lol. Necks will probably not come too cheap contract wise either.
Mangiapane is a good asset with lots of value. The risk is how much of his production do we think dube and pelletier can cover. If you really like pelts I think you turn mangi into draft capital if available. If you aren't sure, then we won't get as much value because we'll have to hunt for someone cost controlled.

I'm really of the belief that the everything the Flames will do hinges on the outcome of Gaudreau. If he splits, chucky is extended long term and they have the space to work around the rest of the existing group.
Signing Johnny on the hand will result in a cascading effect of multiple moves that likely revamps the core in a big way.
Johnny signs for 8 years and this is his team and it'll be built around him.
I accept my preconceived notion that we are losing one of Gaudreau , Tkachuk or Mangiapane and as many as two of them.
There's still issues on the roster that will require a lot of attention as well after the Gaudreau situation is resolved.
My guess? Flames move Tkachuk and Mangiapne both of them.
Sign a slightly cheaper winger and promote Pelletier to the middle 6.
The Flames are going to gut their farm to ice the main roster this year with 3 or 4 promotions.
I've been worried about these big re signings for over a year now and I just don't know if they should be doling out 9+m long term contracts to either winger.

Would love that. Toffoli with a speedy playmaker on his line and a full summer under the Sutter training plan would help a lot.
Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Dube - Necas - Toffoli
Pelletier - Backlund - Coleman

I doubt Necas is available and will he not command a similiar salary to Mangiapane? I wonder if you could move Mangiapane for Ottawa's 1st, apparently they are open to dealing it for help at forward.
