New neighbours moved-in down the street recently. They're perhaps early-mid 30s, and they both have bright orangey red hair (think Beaker from The Muppets). They have three little kids all under perhaps six with the same orange colour hair. It's adorable seeing this family with matching manes out and about, like a pride of lions in search of a playground. Or a pack of leprechauns.
I haven't met them yet, but I met the guy's dad when they were moving in (not a redhead) who told me the son is training in some kind of medical specialty. I hope it's trichology. Or genetics.
Don't redheads make up like 1% of the population? And isn't red-headedness a recessive trait? Those are some pretty fantastic odds that there's five of them. I should take this over to the math nerd thread.

I'm not a geneticist, but yes red-headedness is recessive. But, being a recessive trait, two redheads can only produce redhead children. So the odds of all three kids being redhead is 100%.

My son has brown hair, but grows a beard with lots of red in it. His girlfriend had some red in her hair when she was younger, but they both must have the gene because my grandson has beautiful bright red hair.
It's one of those things, whenever they bring him anywhere people comment on his hair.

My buddy's kid is on this list.
It's great to see, he is a good kid and a great family.

This isn't my story directly, but it's a continuation from two years back.
I mentioned in this thread years back that Mrs. Puppet had started finding her birth parents. She found her dad in March 2020 through Ancestry, and through talking to him learned her birth-mother's name. Via some internet detective work she found her in the summer of 2020. Mrs. Puppet has been in regular communication with both of them since, and in a few hours she'll meet her birth mother for the first time (a planned visit in the spring got scrapped when we all got Covid). I'm expecting the next few days to be filled with all kinds of emotion, but it'll definitely be exciting.

Following along on 81MC post is gear grinders.
Trees really make me happy. I have been working on planting, transplanting, purchasing and rescuing trees for the past 15 to 20 years. Now to the point on my properties that I have a healthy blend of nice, mature trees along with some I just planted last year.
It’s nice to know that you will leave something behind for the next generation.
Advice to someone younger and just getting started would be to take lots of pictures. You really notice how far you have come in 10 or 15 years when you are able to look back on those pictures.

Could you please expand on what this means/entails?
More than 10yrs ago we invested trees for our typical yard... that has close neighbors and not much privacy. Fast forward and during the summer we feel a lot more privacy and enjoy the blend of shrubs, trees, flowers, etc that hide a fence in dire need to repaint (and repair).

I have dug about 10 trees from friends / friends of friends yards that were planted too close to a house / sidewalk or whatever. I think most of them are saplings that their kids had brought home from school. Plant and water them at home.

Seeing little kids dressed up doing the Halloween thing makes me so happy. It brings back that feeling of excitement as a kid that seems to get lost over time.

Not just Halloween for me. I live near an elementary school and there's a daycare near me too, so I can hear kids laughing and playing from my office when the window is open. I love that happy innocence.

After the first big winter storms of the year, it's nice having changed out of the transportation industry to something much less affected by weather. I know what a gong show my old jobs would've been right now, and it's nice to just be going along business as usual at my new one.

As someone also adopted who found both sides of her birth family in the past few years - how did it go?

Icicles make me happy. I'm not exactly sure why but I love seeing icicles and the bigger the better. We rarely seem to have the right conditions for some nice icicles growing on the house but this first snow fall and cold snap is different. We have some impressive ones growing off our upper eaves and it looks really cool.
