Yes, it's own thread.

This is mainly a lighthearted smack talk thread.

There's rumours that the Canucks may have fired Rachel Doerrie from her analytics position she was only recently hired for. Apparently Dhaliwal talked about this today. Nothing official online though...

I wonder what cause that decision? Did she tell management that they've assembled a crappy team analytically?

The cynic in me says maybe they hired her for PR reasons, and weren't actually interested in having her do the job. ‘Diversity hire! Women in sports! Analytics! Forward thinking! Look how great we are! OK, press conference over, you can go now.’

I wouldn't be surprised that's what actually happened.

I would. NHL teams aren't that stupid in terms of PR. If they weren't prepared to pay her for at least a year they wouldn't have hired her to begin with. I'd also be surprised if negativity was the problem since Rutherford himself has basically said the team was crap and goaltending was the only thing saving them from being worse.

Rumor out there that she may have been promoted to video coach of some sort.

If you want women to be hired in hockey women are going to be fired in hockey and you can't really make any more of a fuss about it. Seems odd but in this business its not really that uncommon for someone to have a short tenure

is video coach a promotion?

After nine months? That is definitely not common in the NHL.

I can’t think of a worse punishment than being tasked with watching hours and hours, day after day of the Canucks.

They also have multiple women as assistant GMs

Saying they hired Dorrie for PR reasons just to fire her is insane

Boudreau talked about her a week ago being on the coaching staff

Boudreau was asked about his meetings over the past couple of weeks with his new coaching staff and in his response, mentioned new video coach Dylan Crawford and then also Doerrie, who he identified as Crawford’s assistant.

Beyond helping Crawford cut video, her job will be to translate the wealth of data available to the NHL teams, like the game-tracking data collected by the Canucks’ analytics department themselves, into terms that are more easily digestible for players and coaches

CP has been breaking down footage and putting it into more easily digestible terms for years.
Vancouver is no good.

That can't be. I have heard from Oilers fans that no one is as unlucky and hard-done-by as them.

It appears lots of Oilers and Canucks fans seem to mistake organizational ineptitude for bad luck.

I think it had more to do with Mihkeyev possibly tearing his ACL after one preseason game.
