I'm guessing it will all open simultaneously similar to how it was with the other three legs so 2021?.

They can sever that access whenever they want now that the 194 Ave connection to McLeod is complete.
Silverado residents won't use Sheriff King to access the ring road, especially since you will only be able to go westbound. Spruce Meadows Way offered both directions, or 194 to McLeod.

I doubt they would have moved into the bidding stage if they didn't have plans to advance the construction next year.

Really? There is actually a chance they would cancel the west ring road instead of finishing? I never thought of that.

UPC is bleating about current spending but will not be specific on what they would cut. They could claim they have a mandate from the people to do something like this. Not saying they will do this, but it is certainly in the realm of possibilities. Depends on what the penalties might be.
This is just speculation on my part, but I cannot see how a new UPC government kills the Carbon tax and cuts spending drastically (enough to make a difference to our deficit) yet somehow finds money for the west ring road, Green Line etc.

Look at Winnipeg's Perimeter Highway. Started in the late 1950s and then about 80% completed sometime in the 1970s. They finally got the last 20% connected in the late 90s, and should be fully connected sometime next year. (When I went through in the summer it still had a long ways to go.)

I imagine the voter base of the UCP cares more about roads than things like health care, education and transit. The conversatives started the ring road project so I'm sure they'd love to say they finished it.

Horrible traffic this afternoon on 6th St SW and 22X because of the construction. Lots of signage warning about it for at least a week, but it was still worse than most expected

Yeah, it was pretty bad. Single lane for west bound 22x and right hand turn onto 6th. Hope that’s only for today.

Overall they have done an excellent job with the McLeod 22x intersection. Maybe 5 bad days out of the whole construction period so far. Everything has been well signed and changes announced in advance.
This project and the 162nd overpass have been exceptional for accommodation of existing traffic especially compared to the 14th and Anderson messes

Technically not part of the SWRR project but over the past few days they have slashed and cleared all the brush from the TCH interchange on the west side of the city all the way up the hill to the west off COP. I'm assuming this is some initial work on the WRR (?) I don't think the actually contract has been awarded yet but the Alberta Govt announced they were proceeding with the project.

I DO I DO, my house backs onto 194th...
There are two communities further south as well.
EDIT: Related to the ring road, Macloed is closed this weekend in both directions as they pull down the old 22x bridge. Stay the eff away from this end of the city if you can, it is going to be an unmitigated disaster.

In your face, chemgear! 194th is going to be one of the busiest roads in Calgary this weekend. RIP to the Chaparrallians, Waldinians, and Silveradians. Guaranteed the cops set up in a few spots along the detour routes.
