How much does $100M in Gold actually weigh? You'd think it'd be a lot.

A news report Thursday said that 3,600 pounds of gold — worth more than $100M — being moved through the airport had been stolen

Based on my rough math at about $87k / kg = 1,149 kg or around 2,500 lbs.

How do you move 3,600 pounds of anything at an airport without somebody noticing?

And where is Bruce Willis?

Density of gold is 8000kg/m^3 so that’s only about a 2 ft x 2 ft x 2 ft crate and a small fork lift loaded into the back of a 1 ton truck.

At Pearson? Put it in a suitcase, no one will ever find it again.

I imagine you would need a good disguise, like a fake moustache.

I guess I'm going to have to be the one to ask all the hard-hitting journalist questions here.

Was there...a comically undersized burlap sack with a dollar-sign involved?

A mini Cooper can haul 1100lbs, take off 200lbs for a person plus some gear so assume 900lbs per car. It would take 4 mini coopers to haul 3600lbs.

It could have been as easy as having staff on the inside just loading onto a plane.
