Default Flames drub Hamilton 4-0

Curtis McElhinney made 26 saves for the shutout and Krys Kolanos scored a pair as the Quad City Flames beat the Hamilton Bulldogs 4-0 in AHL action Friday night. Grant Stevenson had 2 assists and Carsen Germyn was named first star of the game with 1 goal and 1 assist.

The Flames [21-18-2-5; 49 pts] are now in 5th place in the AHL's West Division, but Houston and Milwaukee both are 1 point behind with 4 and 3 games in hand, respectively.

Quad City heads to Toronto on Saturday to play the Marlies. The game can be seen on The Score starting at 2pm MT.

McElhinney showing a bit of 'tude too. Roughing penalty. He was pretty feisty the other night versus Rochester as well.

Nice to see Germyn picking it up. Stevenson deserves a call-up, but probably won't get it this season.

Is there much difference in Germyn and Smith? Seem pretty similar....but so did they last year too. Not sure why Smith gets so much ice time on the big club when others at seemingly similar level overall like Germyn aren't given a call up. I like Smith....speed, tenacity, but just curious why we didn't use the cheap prospect here.

Germyn just doesn't have the foot speed .
Smith is quite a bit faster .
Germyn looked lost last year on his call ups .
Alls he would do is shoot on net from the redline just to get a shot on net.
No where near Smith's calibre for checking or fighting .
