Storing two types of dangerous explosives in the same location, all in the middle of the biggest city in the country, in a highly volatile region, while the country goes through economic and social hell..... Just wow
Whoever made that decision needs to be arrested and tried for treason. This is absolutely insane.
What would cause that mushroom cloud? Is it just air compressing and condensing?
What an awful tragedy. Would this be similar to the Halifax explosion?
Not that it's a contest, but the Halifax explosion was likely far worse. The Halifax explosion, despite occurring in a less populated area, left 2000 dead and destroyed 100s of acres of the city. The Halifax explosion also set a significant portion of the city on fire.
Once again, tragedies aren't contests, but the Halifax explosion was a magnitude larger than this.

The Tianjin explosion, which was larger than this, was 8.5 times smaller than Halifax. There'd be so many dead twitter users if they were in Halifax.
For reference, Halifax was 7 times less than Hiroshima, which was a ridiculously low fission rate bomb. People out there saying this looks nuclear are being silly. If it was a nuclear bomb, we'd be getting aftermath videos, not videos from people on their balconies.

Not much has changed. A major source of injury in Halifax was people looking through glass windows at the fire, assuming they were protected, only to have the shockwave from the resulting explosion blind them by blowing shards of glass into their eyes and face.
Many sources state that the Halifax explosion may have been the biggest non-purposeful non-nuclear explosion ever. It's weird we don't learn more about it.
