Valimaki and whoever they select with their 3rd round pick this year (currently projected to be in the 80s)

I hate to pile on, but how in the world did you need clarification on sureloss' initial post? If anything he overexplained it to make sure there was no confusion, lol. "they will be on track to make".

Pettersen confirmed to be attending the Division I tournament.
He won't be going until after Denver plays two games this weekend, which means he'll likely miss Norway's first game of the tournament (and possibly first 2), which starts on Sunday in Germany.
The D-I tournament doesn't have a playoff. The team with the best record in five games against the other teams will get promoted to next year's World Juniors.

Looking forward to Bouchard (despite the Oilers stink) and Formenton this year then - and would be awesome to see Foudy in there too.
We don't normally get much WJC content, but zero would be odd.
|
We just had 3 years with a closet-full of prospects at the tourney, like 5 or 6 per year. Probably as many as any team in the league. And now it will cool off for a couple years - it goes in cycles.

Agreed.
The only way I'd want a first traded in the next few years would be to protect someone in the expansion draft. Other than that there's no glaring holes in the roster, leave the draft picks alone

The last 3 years were great, you're right. I didn't know it spanned that long TBH.
Prior to those 3 years though, I remember it was tough to find a Flame prospect to cheer for - or they were far down the depth chart.

There was the Gaudreau year not too long before that, also Gillies, Sieloff, Wotherapoon, Granlund off the top of my head. Tkachuk, Bennett and Monahan were all too good to go back to junior as well. I'd say we've been well represented

Most teams bring 13 forwards to the World Juniors. If Anaheim releases Lundestrom to play, Sveningsson will have to survive 2 cuts to make the team.

Slovakia has released the European camp roster. Slovakia does a unique camp format.
They have a camp with all the European players then the Slovakians have all the North American Slovak's join them later. So no surprise that the Flames prospects are not on this list yet.

edit: Russia's roster has been released. No Zavgorodniy

I don't really know prospects, but I like the fact that Sveningsson is leading the Swedish Allsvenskan in points by an NHL drafted prospect.
I'm curious to watch him at the WJC. Nice to see him punching above his draft position so far.

Because the 2019 draft isn't in the past.

The Division I-A Tournament got underway today in Füssen, Germany.
Pettersen played last night for the University of Denver in North Dakota, so he wasn't able to get to Germany in time to play in Norway's first game.
Norway played Belarus to open the tournament. Norway had a 3-0 lead late in the second period. Belarus scored with one second left in the second period to make it 3-1 heading into the third. Belarus then scored 3 PP goals and an ENG in the final frame. Belarus won 5-3.
They way the D-IA tournament is set up, only the top team gets promoted to the main tournament next year (the bottom team gets demoted to the D-IB). It is a straight round robin, with no playoff. Since this format was adopted 7 years ago, no team has earned promotion with even one regulation loss on their record.

Slovakia has announced the NA players they are bringing to their camp. As expected Pospisil, Roman, and Ruzicka were invited.
https://sport.aktuality.sk/c/372106/...onku-nez-doma/
Quote:
Directly in Canada, twenty players from Europe will be joined by eight olympic ice hockey players - Milos Roman, Adam Ružička, Patrik Hrehorčák, Oliver Okuliar, Maxim Tchaikovitch, Andrei Kukuca, Michal Ivan and Martin Pospíšil.
|
Also promising was that the Slovakia coach admitted in an interview that Slovakia does not have enough players of international quality available domestically and that they would be relying on players from North America.
