Not in the upper echelon. But.....
They are a team that could go on a run if they hit a streak at the right time. Their pieces are better than Vegas last year, in general, except for goaltending. They can hand with any team IMO.

Any team that makes the playoffs IMO is contending for it. So yes? They should....SHOULD make the playoffs as their game is not wildly inconsistent as we have on seen minor ups and downs. Their play on the whole so far has been stellar given the massive amount of change over this off season.
Barring a catastrophic string of long term injuries that really hammers at the depth of this team, they're contending for a cup.

This has been a fun season so far and Flames show signs of being a good team. The Stanley Cup tournament is something else entirely and I’m not really even thinking about that.

Considering if management had pulled the plug on Smith earlier, Flames could have another 6ish points and be first in the West. I'd say they are damn close.

They are a #1 goalie and maybe a top 6 centre away from contender status.

Almost every playoff team is a Stanley Cup contender. It’s a very close league

Pump the brakes. I'd just like to see them make the playoffs in consecutive years.

Isn't touching the trophy the new meta? Or do we touch the East and not touch the West?

On pumping the brakes - no way. Can’t burn a year with a team that is actually this good and deep. Loser mentality. I expect multiple rounds.
On touching the trophy - Yeah, I dunno. I was actually on board with Iggy touching it.
But the man didn’t like the goal in game 6. It was in.

The team has succeeded in spite of him. Good team, high expectations.
It will get sorted out I am sure.

Yes they are a contender. The window is definitely open for this team. Rebuild is over time to aim high.

Right now I see them as the Minnesota Wild of playoff teams with a bit more upside.
Somewhere in the 7-10th top team range. Can move up with a bit more success and cohesiveness as a group but a lot of the pieces are there.

Interesting that they’re now 5th overall in goal differential

If the "Real Deal" get's going and are goalie situation stays good. We are definitely in that conversation of teams who could win it all.
I'd like Tre to add one more skilled forward up front to put us over the top though. Even if just a rental. Seriously, insert another top 6 winger/center and our forward group becomes ridiculous. As in BITL.

We are the best of a bad division, and we have the potential. But as long as we're trailing when entering the third period in three of every five games, no we're not legit contenders.
