Here is my favourite part in Staples's apologetic:

So, as far as the theory goes, Steve Kozari was so badly embarrassed because of McDavid showing him up in a game from last season that he in retribution refuses to call infractions that the golden-boy draws.
Yeah, go with that, Oilers fans. Can a fanbase get any more pathetic?

I'm confused... is this not a picture of McDavid mauling Edler?
The quiet class with which the Flames organization goes about their business is so wondrously juxtaposed against the arrogant, brash, and juvenile chest-pounding that goes on daily up north.

Wrong. Edler is holding McDavid's glove with his chin.

I said it last year and repeated it this year. The Ducks actually provided the blueprint on how to beat these guys. You have to show no respect for 97. Lean on him. Hit him. Scrum it up with him. Be mean. We did that the first time we met to great success.
This guy ones us during the Gulutzan era. We were like an mike Tyson opponent. Defeated before the match even started. I hope the rest of the league takes notice.

Oh my god, YES!
This weekend as the Flames solidified their grasp on the Pacific Division and served notice to the NHL that they were a force to be reckoned with, all I could think of was this historically embarrassing article penned by smug Mark Spector in 2017 when the Oilers looked poised to make the playoffs for the first time in a decade:

"Calgary has been the better franchise for many years. They are not anymore, and are firmly in the chase position from this point forward...
"...Calgary’s a wild card team at best now, while the Oilers are well in contention for the Pacific Division lead.
"It’s a big change in Alberta, and it won’t be changing back soon."
An article like this would only ever appear in an Edmonton media outlet.

This article and the 'oilers will be the nhl golden state warriors' one should be tweeted to these fools daily as a reminder of their incompetence at all things hockey related.

The worst thing about the Spector article is that we know they never learn up there. If by chance the Oilers are ever ahead of the Flames in the standings there will be another article just like that.

For those living in the Vancouver area it has been fun listening to the radio guys laughing their asses off at Ken Hitchcock for whining about obstruction to the media.

Little bit of Gamesmanship from Hitch, but not exactly a wise time to exercise it.
He could complain if there was something blatant, but all the Nucks did was prevent McDavid from winding up in the Neutral Zone. Theres nothing wrong with that.
So now the refs are going to look back at the tape and realize that Hitch is just whining for the sake of whining and completely ignore him.

I get being a homer for your home team. Honestly, I do get it. I get being defensive about your home team. What I don't get is the constant whining coming from Edmonton Oilers' fanbase.
Let's be honest, Calgary Flames fanbase is probably one of the meanest in the league towards our own dear team, when it loses. This forum is a living proof of that. We do not forgive anything – there are no sacred cows. Our media is ruthless (Eric Francis!). Even superstars get their fair share of criticism when they skip a bit. With Oilers' fans and their media – it's always someone else to blame - refs not giving enough love to McDavid, bad players on other teams not giving enough respect to McDavid, bad NHL schedule not giving enough respect to Oilers' traveling time, bad other teams playing better against the Oilers than against others... It's always someone else's fault causing the Oilers to suck and to be a perennially no good franchise. This is probably the biggest difference between Oilers' fans and other teams' fans.

More importantly, think of the message he's sending his own team: It's alright that they shat the bed against a terrible team because it's the referee's fault.
