Density is simply one component of smart growth. New subdivisions are still fundamentally designed and laid out in a menner which makes them not particularly walkable or transit supportive. Uses are segregated, commercial is still isolated and auto-oriented, road patterns create meandering and inefficient bus routes, roads are too wide, connectivity is poor, green spaces are large but often consist of not much more than a field etc...

Interesting interview with Nenshi on the development industry and its votecalgary.ca initiative and campaign finance.

I've got to disagree with Nenshi here. I don't think the developers are being transparent at all. There's so much BS in that votecalgary.ca message: they're intentionally misleading the public. Talking about population growth like it's something that would be inhibited by increasing popultion density, for example.

You're right, the message is kinda a load of bs, as is their point of view on growth management but at least there is a forum out there for discussion. By doing this, they've exposed themselves to criticism, of which they are receiving plenty on forums like Twitter. They're also putting resources into disseminating candidate information and links, which does have some public benefit. This is contrast to years past when companies would simply throw heaps of money in private to candidates of their preference.

CTV covered this, but Bell also does a good job, with more examples of sole-sourcing.

A mayoral candidate actually talking substantively about issues!! yeehaw!

VERY good speech from Nenshi at his recent event. Reconfirms many of the reasons why I think he is the best candidate by a mile. Is an actual fiscal conservative, knows how to actually make changes happen, doesn't just speak in platitudes, is not so ideologically driven, clearly has leadership qualities, has vision etc, etc.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

The current thread about the election wasn't good enough for you? Had to revive a dead thread eh?

What, you mean in one of two poll threads?

Besides, it seems like posting in the wrong thread is the thing to do around here.
