I can't see Tre doing this unless he knows he's got a very reasonable shot at a fair extension, or maybe he doesn't do it unless an extension is already agreed to.

Agreed, can't see him doing it without an extension. I could see teams who have a more pressing window, like the Ducks, giving up way more than the Flames could and would want to.

Freddie & Dougie, pack your ####! You're headed to Buffalo
Wild Wings for an autograph signing.
Kane isn't coming to Calgary.

If Kane ends up here I want Treliving's head. He's Already made enough bone head moves but this would be the icing on the cake.

I'd put him on the top line to give us a truly elite top line with Gaudreau and Monahan. And then Ferland can slide down to play with Janko & Bennett to give us a terrorizing third line. Hathaway who has shown he's and NHL player slides down to the fourth line to play with Lazar and Brouwer.

I have to agree. I think Kane as a player is an ideal addition to our roster.
It's the character questions and the cost that are concerning. However, I trust in our management's ability to discern if he would be a bad addition to a locker room in the same way they heavily scouted Kylington's "attitude issues" that were talked about.
I would be ok with a high cost if we can re-sign him for an acceptable price.

puked in my mouth...
trades for the sake of trading often don't make any sense...
Matt Duchene cost Ottawa an arm and a leg and has done nothing for them...Buffalo is angling for a huge return.
hard. pass.

"Among the teams most interested" could also be read as 'in the group of teams that haven't yet expressed overt disinterest.'

How about we keep the 1st + prospect + whatever else and just keep Ferland on the top line until we can find a real replacement. Kane isn't enough of an upgrade on Ferland to make it worthwhile, then you add in the attitude issues and the fact he is heading into free agency just makes it a dumb idea all around. An extended Kane would be even worse, guy is in a contract year and suddenly he is good again, pass. Let some other team sign him to a long term contract that they regret a year later.

I don’t see it. Where would he play? I would assume he takes Ferland’s spot or Jagr/Hathaway?
Then when you think about the cost to acquire and the fact he likely leaves for the biggest payday it really doesn’t make sense. The Flames went all in with their draft assets for Hamonic. Unless Kane is willing to sign the Frolik or Brouwer contract I don’t see a long term fit

Get it done Brad. People are over doing it with the character issues. People don't like change around here, this team badly needs another sniper and some toughness.

Was this the reason for Tre attending those consecutive sabres games?

Where do you see a space on this roster for him? Top line? I don't think so, Ferland is fitting in nicely there. Second line? Who is he replacing there? 3rd line? I don't want him taking away ice time from Bennett, and while he'd be an improvement on Jagr or Hathaway, is it worth the price to improve on those guys?

I see him on the first line eventually. I would assume a player or two would be going the other way. He is better than Ferland, Frolik and Hathaway.

This trade only makes sense for a true cup contender.
Even if we add Kane, would that put us in the conversation of top 4? Top 8 even?
I'm not sure it does. At this stage I hope they pass.

Career numbers: 327 points in 526 games.
So you want to pay a first-round pick (which the Flames haven't got until 2019), a good prospect or a later pick, and probably a roster player for a four-month rental of a player who has never performed at anything like this level before, and by all indications is heading straight to UFA to cash in? All righty then.
