Episode 154: Jobs Up For Grabs
Posted on September 28, 2017

It's our 2017-2018 season premiere.

It's training camp, and the Flames have jobs available in the NHL, but very few of the young players look like they want to take those jobs. Who has looked ready to make the jump to the NHL and who hasn't? Which veterans are we excited about, and we discuss one of the questions we're asked frequently...how does the goalie tandem of Mike Smith and Eddie Lack look so far?

Episode 156: The Curse is Broken!
October 12, 2017

After 25 consecutive regular season losses in Anaheim, the Flames finally broke the curse! A 2-0 win capped off a very unexpected week of Flames hockey to open the season. We will discuss how the Flames look early in this season, and how we think things will go for the next week.

If the Flames can win in Anaheim, they can win any game this year, right?

Episode 157: The Sam Bennett Discussion
October 18, 2017

Six games into the season, and the Flames are still surprising us with a winning record. We spend the show looking at why the Flames have been successful so far, and discussing one Flame in particular...Sam Bennett - and what the Flames should do with him both now, and in the long term. Plus...some positive comments about Troy Brouwer!

Episode 158: Jagr’s Out, Jankowski’s In!

After a winless week for the Flames, Jaromir Jagr is put on the injury reserve, which means Mark Jankowski gets called up from Stockton, to centre a line between Sam Bennett and Curtis Lazar. We discuss how these lineup changes will affect the team.

Episode 159: .500 And Feeling Fine

This week we discuss what roster move(s) the Flames should make when Jagr comes off the IR, how Kulak has played his way into the top 6, some hypothetical line juggling to get better scoring – including who should be on the first line Right Wing, and if Johnny Gaurdreau is the pure scorer he once was.

Episode 160: Waiving Goodbye to Tanner Glass

This week the waiver wire was busy as the Flames placed Tanner Glass and Freddie Hamilton on waivers. We discuss these and other roster moves and where Jagr will fit into the lineup upon his return and the secondary scoring woes.

On the bright side, there is a lot to like in Stockton right now. Andrew Mangiapane is tearing it up, and David Rittich is looking great! We'll let you know what is happening with the Heat.

Episode 161: Secondary Scoring Has Arrived!

The Flames have ended their longest homestand of the year with good news…their secondary scoring has finally come alive! Mark Jankowski and Jaromir Jagr have had fantastic chemistry this week to propel the Flames to 2 big wins in a row. Of course we’re discussing the secondary scoring and how we feel about the roster and the Flames chances at the 17 game point.

With Mike Smith’s injury in the St. Louis game, we’ll discuss the options for the Flames in net on their road trip, and how we feel about the Flames chances in their next 6 games in 11 days on the road.

Episode 162: Secondary Scoring Has Arrived!

We're analyzing the team at the quarter mark of the season, and giving our thoughts on where the team sits, and where we predict the team will finish. Will the Flames have a strong finish to the year because they are a good team, because they are in a weak Pacific Division, or a bit of both?
Lots of discussion the goalie changes over the last week - Mike Smith getting hurt, Eddie Lack starting in Detroit, and Jon Gillies relief effort. How long can the Flames keep riding Mike Smith like they are, if they want him to be ready for the post-season? What do they have to do to find a capable backup goalie?
Rumours are abound that Brad Treliving has been scouting the Buffalo Sabres recently. We break down some possible trade options and what kind of trades we'd like to see between the two teams. Would we want to see Evander Kane as a Flame? What pieces do the Flames have that we're comfortable moving in any deal?

Episode 163: The Backup Goalie Show

With Eddie Lack waived and sent to Stockton, and David Rittich recalled to Calgary, this show focuses mostly on discussions around the Flames goaltending tandem. With the Flames having 3 back-to-back games in the next month should David Rittich stay, or should Jon Gillies also be given a shot? Is this the end of the line for Eddie Lack with the Flames? In the NHL? All these questions are answered and more revolving around Flames goaltenders not named Mike Smith.

We discuss the abysmal fourth line and what the Flames need to do to remedy their bottom six. Is it time to jettison Stajan (and possibly Brouwer) to Stockton? If so, who deserves a recall? Should Mangiapane or Hathaway get recalled? Or should the Flames look at some older prospects like Klimchuk or Shinkaruk?

Episode 164: Daryl Sutter Deja Vu

Matt is at his wit's end with the Calgary Flames this week, and thinks it is time for the Flames to fire Glen Gulutzen and bring Daryl Sutter back to Calgary to coach the team to solve the team's woes. Dan think the Flames need to keep the coaching staff in place for the remainder of the season - and the Flames aren't in as bad a position as Matt thinks and that the Flames can still make the playoffs.

Episode 165: Matthew Tkachuk Gets A Talking To

Matt is feeling better after his rant this week, so the guys can talk Flames hockey again. We're most upbeat this week with some better hockey by the Flames. We talk about the third line, Matthew Tkachuk's suspension and getting talked to by the league, Jagr, and answer some listener questions.

Episode 166: Fantasy Line Shuffling

Our last show of 2017 looks at where the Flames are at right now in the season, and our thoughts on the team so far this season. The Flames have been playing solid games lately, but haven’t been able to get the wins. What if the Flames were to break up the 3M line? How would shuffling the lines look? Is Jagr relegated to the fourth line when he returns? We do some fantasy line juggling this week.

Episode 167: Mangiapane Makes The NHL

We're back for our first episode of 2018 - and celebrating our fifth calendar year (6th NHL season) of the show. With Michael Frolik being out long-term with a jaw injury, where does this leave the Flames "3M" line and how will Andrew Mangiapane fit into the lineup? Is it worth keeping The 2M's together, or totally blowing up the Flames second line? We talk about the Eddie Lack trade, and wonder why Dalton Prout was sent to Stockton and not taking Bartkowski's place in the NHL, as well as what this trade means for our AHL and ECHL goalies.

Episode 168: Freddie Is DougLESS

We discuss this week's two big wins for the Flames, Freddie Hamilton's waiver claim, and the apparent upcoming separation between the Flames and Jaromir Jagr - and what it means for the team. We'll answer some questions submitted by our listeners and make predictions for a tough week of games before the Flames bye week.

Episode 169: Riding The Streak Into The Bye Week

The Flames break for their mandated bye week on a season high 7 game win streak, and holding the 2nd place spot in the Pacific Division. The guys chat about what has changed, and how the AHL callups have been instrumental in the team's success - and who is likely to stay in the NHL after the bye week. With all the forward callups, what is the Flames depth like on Defence? And what roster moves need to be made to allow some rookie blueliners to make the team?

We look ahead to the schedule and what to expect after the break, and a whole lot more news about the red hot Calgary Flames.

Recapping The Season on The Bottom Line View NHL

Because of the Flames bye week, we don’t have enough to discuss for a full show – but this week Dan and Matt joined Kevin Olenick of the Bottom Line View NHL YouTube channel to recap the Flames season so far, discuss where the Flames might go this season – and look ahead to the trade deadline.

We’ll be back with a regular episode next week, but we hope you enjoy this recap in the mean time.

Episode 170: 11 Game Point Streak, or 4 Game Losing Streak?

The Flames haven’t won a game since the bye week, but have a point in each game. Are the Flames on an 11 game point streak, or a 4 game losing streak? We discuss all the news of the week including what the Flames need to change to get back on track, how Michael Frolik’s return against Vegas changes the lineup, and talk about the departure of Jaromir Jagr.

Episode 171: 6 Losses & Finally A Win!

After finally getting a win over Chicago, the guys talk about the 6 game losing streak and what it means for the Flames playoff chances. Was sending Andrew Mangiapane back to Stockton the right move? And what is Garnet Hathaway’s upside as an NHL player?

The Flames have apparently been heavily scouting the Ottawa Senators ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline. The guys discuss what some possible deals with the Senators might look like.
